At “Survival of the Fittest 2012” in Baltimore, “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin and “The Man Beast” Rhino collided in a Qualifying Bout while both men were still operating under the umbrella of The House of Truth. That night, with some involvement from Martini himself that prevented Rhino from hitting The Gore, Elgin scored a victory and advanced to the Elimination Finals of the SOTF tournament.
Fast forward only three months and now neither man claims any affiliation to Martini's leadership, or his money, as they have both declared their independence from the HoT in very physical fashions.
Still, Martini won't let Elgin go easily as he played a direct factor in his defeat at the hands of Roderick Strong at “Final Battle 2012” but at least Truth suffered for it after the fact. As for Rhino, well that is another question entirely because while his ties with Martini have been cut clean, there is now a lingering riddle of just what his affiliation to S.C.U.M may be following “Final Battle 2012”.
With the S.C.U.M question out there, and with Elgin still looking to get his hands on Roderick in a Martini-less fashion, these two mountains will go one-on-one once more when ROH returns to Dearborn, MI on January 18th!!!
“The last time Rhino and I went head to head, I may have won but it was far from satisfying.” said Elgin to ROHWrestling.com, “Truth threw himself in the middle of that match, just like he did at Final Battle, and it left that question out there of just who would have won if not for Truth's involvement. As for you, Rhino...I saw what you did to Lethal in New York, and while I honestly don't care one way or the other about whatever you're doing with SCUM, I'm forced to wonder if I have to worry about that too, or if it was just one moment in time. See my aim is to run you over Rhino, my aim is to get back in the ring with Kevin Steen and take the ROH World Title, and I will break SCUM, I will break Truth, I will break Roderick, and I will break anyone who tries to get in the way of that.”
It's Elgin vs. Rhino on January 18th at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI! Add that powerhouse match-up to the already announced Wolves vs. Briscoes, Cole vs. Jacobs, and Lethal vs. Corino bouts and it looks like ROH is kicking off 2013 with a bang! Tickets for our return to the Great Lakes State are available right here!
Should be great, hopefully it'll be similar to Rhino vs Calliahn
On Friday January 18th Ring of Honor returns to Dearborn, MI for our first live event in the Great Lakes State since “Revolution: USA” in the summer of 2011.
That night, at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, ROH Match Maker Nigel McGuinness is giving a hometown underdog the biggest opportunity of his wrestling life. The Motor City's own Tadarius Thomas will receive an ROH World Title opportunity, the first of 2013, against champion Kevin Steen in what is undoubtedly the highest pressure situation Thomas has been in since he joined ROH, if not in his entire professional career.
“This is a dream.” said Thomas to ROHWrestling.com, “I want to pinch myself and make sure I'm not dreaming. People are starting think there's something wrong with me because I haven't been able to wipe this smile off my face since Nigel contacted me and told me about this chance. It's the biggest thing that's happened to me and I can't deny I'm as excited as I've ever been. Now the pressure's on though because I've got to prove to everyone that, even with this underdog label, I am damn deserving of this shot at Kevin Steen. Unlike Kevin, I am proud to say I represent ROH and I would be honored to be the champion of the greatest wrestling company in the world. I know everyone looks at me as a longshot, Nigel told me as much himself, but my whole life has been about that. I've made it this far by staying focused on my goals, and while this chance came a whole lot sooner than I ever expected, being a champion has always been my goal. Thank you Nigel, thank you ROH, I won't let you down.”
January could be the biggest month in the career of Tadarius Thomas if he should win the Top Prospect Tournament AND bring an end to the now 8 month World Title reign of Kevin Steen. If he defeats Steen, Tadarius's profile will no doubt skyrocket in the wrestling world as he will become the holder of the most prestigious championship in all of wrestling.
Tickets for ROH's return to Dearborn on January 18th are available right here in the ROH Store!
Probably the biggest reaction would be "Huh? Really?" both because of the randomness of the title shot and that Thomas really hasn't gotten across anything close to a personality needed to win the title. That's what the rookie tournament is for. Plus it'd make the whole Lethal thing a waste of time.
