I've noticed something about the Other Wrestling Section

Its not nearly as dramatic or dynamic or as full of content as the rest of this forum

i can understand that since indy wrestling is a niche hobby at best but i would like some more passion and variety than just show dates and reviews with only maybe 2 or 3 pages at a time

Well, there are a few major differences than the other sections. Perhaps the biggest differences is that their are more fans of WWE and TNA than independent wrestling on this forum.

Other differences are there are mostly threads for the "bigger" events and those events are talked about from the beginning, each thread starts with the announcement of the PPV and then goes on until the fallout of the event. There are other threads about certain promotions and other things that get slept on.

Overall though, the reason this section is quieter than others is because most people come on here to talk about WWE and TNA for the most part. Not a bad thing. You rarely get people who don't really get the sport commenting in the Other Wrestling section.

Plus it's not like everyone watches the same thing. Some watch puro, some don't. some watch lucha, some don't. There's various indies that are scattered, you have to wait until DVDs come out to talk about some promotions and since there isn't a weekly show that everyone can watch easily there's not that standard daily chatter that's in the other sections.

sorry but common sense depicts that if its not a lifestyle then its a hobby, thats how it works

Yeah. You're right then. Watching wrestling isn't what people do with their lives, well for the most part.

And we do ratings here but when the hell did "How can TNA grow?" become a main part of this section haha. Can someone say what they would like more from this section. I understand you want more but what da buck do you want here. What kind of discussions would you rather have.

whatever comes up in the other subforums but for the indies

You don't like it, don't come then. We don't need you.
this is the attitude thats keeping indy wrestling in high school gyms and tna in the poor house

There are so few of us that any sort of serious arguments will just make things awkward because it's the same handful of people that you discuss things with. I think it's been said as well that we don't even watch the same thing because there is so much out there. We have discussions but for the most part I find myself agreeing with a lot of the other posters in this sections and rarely have the need to get into any type of passionate debate. It's more like a place where I can go and talk to people that like the same type of wrestling that I do.

I'm thankful we don't have threads about ratings.

It usually takes some amount of time before we as fans turn from WWE to TNA, ROH, indies, puroresu, lucha and beyond and in that timeframe people tend to grow in age, maturity and worldly understanding, so that the average Other Wrestling fan seems to have a bit more "sophistication" relative to any old cenasux652. We mostly already understand the basic ins and outs of the industry, how to Google things, and what's realistic/practical so the posting is more calculated. Dumbassery, flaming or real trolling isn't really welcome so it's a more civil place. Sophisticated pro-wrestling fan is pretty well an oxymoron but y'all know I what mean.

I'm still confused on what the alternative is, or what you're actually complaining about.

Initially reading this thread, I thought this was going to be a positive thing that this section is not flooded with the same threads and same tiresome fights as others. I'm a little surprised that you (the op) sees this as a bad thing.

I only come on this board to check out this section, because this section gives a nice window to other things happening in the wrestling world. I come here for knowledge and to talk about things that most other wrestling fans do not know about. What reason would I have to fight with someone, when there is already so few of us?

I see plenty of debates, but they're civil. We're talking about art, something that is entirely preference. It's a good thing that we explain why we like or hate something with out implying the other person is an idiot. Of course some minor fights break out, and im sure there are people here who do not like certain other posters, but for the most part we have a good community going on here.

Another thing which people touched upon is what exactly would we all talk about? This isn't like the TNA or WWE section where everyone is on the same page. People who post here watch territorial wrestling, independent wrestling, deathmatches, old/new/indie japanese, old/new/indie lucha and the mainstream stuff (as well as the older mainstream stuff like WCW etc). Nothing really 'unifies' us except we watch stuff other than what is on TV. It's like going to an Atheist community, all of them will have different opinions because they're only considered Atheist by one idea in that they do not believe in a God, all other ideologies and what not can be and are totally different.

I'd gladly take in the 5 match thread which shares a lot of good matches and discussion over this section being spammed with "so and so is overrated", "the new IWC poster boy", "Kurt Angle Da Best and you're stupid if you don't think that" threads.

I've probably only contributed a hundred or so comments and a handful of thread topics in Other Wrestling but it's by far my favourite and the most chilled section here for the reasons that JoeRulz and TaylorFitz point out. I'm 30 years old, the last thing I want to do is get into is a slanging match with some 14 year old in the WWE or TNA sections because a) I have no valid opinion and b) it's utterly asinine. Discussion here is varied and civil but by rote of lack of both regular shows and huge fanbase things just move a little more slowly around these parts.

And yeah I'd argue that wrestling is a hobby for me. I love spending my free time watching shows and am proud of my collection of indy DVDs. Collecting souvenirs and enjoying spending time with them strike me as the definition of a hobby as opposed to a lifestyle. Lifestyle suggests full-time employment within the thing you claim isn't merely a hobby.

this section is massively better without idiots spewing their awful ideas everywhere, though it does happen sometimes.
yes, thread creator, I mean you and your "merge every indy" thread.

there's so little of worth in the WWE/TNA sections that I don't understand why anyone would bother with them, but apparently people do so whatever. when this place was good it was because it had smart people who were all regularly watching the same things, now there's still a few smart people but it's rare that everyone watches something.

I could say more about this place but I don't care allllll that much so I'll stop now.

im looking at my thread history and i cant find anything like that

I try to watch a little bit of everything. I wish all wrestling fans would branch out from the mainstream but it's not going to happen.
movie studios have indy branches so why can't WWE and TNA, FCW and OVW do'nt really count though

WWE and TNA are on TV every week (accounting for almost 9 hours of TV wrestling a week, not counting PPVs.) Indy's, Euro, lucha and puro are not as easy to find. There are just more fans of the mainstream stuff on this board. Oh well. I try to watch a little bit of everything. I wish all wrestling fans would branch out from the mainstream but it's not going to happen.

Is this seriously a "why isn't there more filler/bullshit" thread?

Quality of quantity.

You're also asking why there isn't as much activity in a part of a forum that is viewed by significantly less people? Yeah.... I'm not sure.

And as has been said, everyone here doesn't watch the same thing, the WWE forum is only for WWE, everyone has that in common and most watch that product. This section has a ton of different companies being talked about with almost no one watching them all. I only watch Puro, so most indy talk doesn't interest me or leaves me with not a whole to to say. Same with people who just want to talk ROH or PWG. It's a very splintered section.

I think the other thing is that the WWE forums are a place for people to just spew whatever thought comes to mind as an immediate reaction to the goings on of WWE TV. That's a massive generalisation, but I'd wager not too far from the truth more often than not.

In Other Wrestling, it's a much more cerebral affair. Things like the Indy DVD thread/MOTYC thread often inform my wrestling viewing; I don't have the time to check out ALL the recent indy releases, so it's nice to come to a place where it's all intelligently discussed and dissected and I can be selective with what I watch based on some previous recommendations. Really, we're all in the habit of helping each other out.

I rather like the relative quiet here. Little of the goofy, unnecessary clutter that fills up the WWE/TNA sections makes its way into this area. That's a good thing.

Oh, and the scattered nature of who watches what, when folks get to see it and all that slows conversation down. I know I rarely have anything to say since I'm either behind on my viewing (thus behind the conversation or avoiding spoilers) or the topic is 'best [x] from year [x], promotion [x]', which really isn't my sort of thread. Not bothersome in any way, just not my 'thing'.

The overall tone of this section is different – much like in the Classic Wrestling sub-forum. Folks posting here (and there) seem to have a better grasp on what pro wrestling (sport/art form/entertainment with a long and crazy history)is all about. Even when I'm not contributing, I do enjoy reading many of the more interesting debates, reviews and general discussions.

OP, I'm not really sure passion is missing, unless you mean the silly, over-the-top anger and threads about unimportant minutiae that are such features of the busier sections? I enjoy a laugh at that craziness, and I'm very, very guilty of jumping into some questionable topics for the fun of it, but I appreciate the lack of much of that in some parts of the forum too.

Yeah there really are a limited number of promotions that you can follow at the same time. I've been doing my best just to keep up with Chikara recently and haven't seen anything from ROH or PWG in a long time. I don't think I've seen an ROH match in about a year now and I know that I haven't seen a PWG show in about 8 or 9 months. I've been to a bunch of Chikara shows so that has been my main focus in indy wrestling.

Another thing that I want to point out is that I've met people from this section at various indy shows. Not a huge number of people but I can name about 5 people from this section that I've come across at various indy shows. Now if these were people that I got into crazy flame wars with those would be some super awkward encounters. I see a lot of shows in the northeast and you really do encounter the same people at most of the shows. I mean most people that I talk with at the shows have been to most of the same shows that I've been to. Since these are people that I actually may end up meeting, or even sitting next to at a show I make sure I don't behave like an idiot in this section even more so than in other sections.

Less is more. This section is better with a handful of great active threads than loads of silly threads with tons of idiots posting in them. It's better having a smaller number of posters who aren't idiots than a large number of posters generating more activity with stupid posts/threads. More idiots making stupid threads are creeping in and replacing the good posters who don't post as much anymore though sadly.

This thread was never gonna stay open for long but I left it open long enough for you to have made your point now so there's no need for it to continue any longer.
