Default SWA Zero1 - Mikey Whiplash vs Jack Gallagher

Mikey Whiplash vs Jack Gallagher

Mikey Whiplash is regarded as one of, if not thee best wrestler in the UK today. His top class in ring skills are matched by his look and charisma making a great asset to any card he appears on. Currently SWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion, Whiplash is defending his title here against a young wrestler with a bright future in 'The Grappler' Jack Gallagher. At the age of 22 he's already regarded as a world class in-ring technician, which is no surprise having emerged from Wigans legendary 'Snakepit'.

A little bit of background before my own opinion on this match. This match took place in Govan, Glasgow in Scotland during tryouts to earn a contract to compete with Zero1 in Japan on a 3 month tour, The card was packed with young talent including the Zero1 Junior Tag Champs. This however was by far and away the match of the night for me.

The previous night, me and my mates had attended SWA Battlezone, a royal rumble type event in Motherwell. We went not expecting much, but it was easily the best wresting event I've been too. Around 200 people in attendance but was far louder than any 'big' american show I've attended.

During this event Jack Gallagher faced a young scottish wrestler, Lewis Girvan who is only 17, and was evidently taking on the heel role for the evening. However, things soon changed when our chants of 'Ginger!' became more endearing than antagonising. I was blown away by the guys technical ability and ringsmanship that he has for being so young. This carried on from the singles match to his standing ovation upon entering the main event battle royal.

So, when he was announced as competing for the Scottish Title the following mate, we had to go. We randomly met some other guys who had been the previous night who brought signs to this match 'Ginge 3:16, D-Gingeration X and If Ginge Don't Win, We Riot!' being the best of the bunch.

This match didn't disappoint, Whiplash is becoming and old pro around the UK, although legendary Johnny Kidd was also on the card both nights, and the match he put on with Gallagher was a masterclass, not only in technical wrestling. Gallagher reminds me of a young Bryan Danielson in a lot of ways, but has that deep rooted British Technical style that so many are fond of.

Anyway, I hope some of you enjoy this classic.

It would appear that Gallagher has earned himself a Japanese tour with Zero1 as a result of the above match.

Jack is one of the best seen him a few times in GPW in Wigan. He also writes a monthly column for free wrestling magazine called Alternative Wrestling Magazine. I spoke to the Director of said magazine and he told me a while back that Jack was going to Japan in 2013 but made it seem more like it was a non-wrestling venture. So I don't know if it was a result of this match but either way he is a great talent.

Oh, Gallagher is amazing, definately one of the best British talents out there right now, probably the best young technical wrestler in Britain, i'd say.

Yeah, He was already heading over for various things. This certainly help secure a tour with Zero 1 over there. I believe if everything works out he could be there until Christmas time.
