There were actually 5 this past weekend. CIMA, Horiguchi, Saito, Tozawa, and EITA. Although I would have loved for Doi and Yoshino to have been there so I could have seen them live.

Actually, that is one thing done extremely well in DGUSA. The point was not to bring Shingo, YAMATO, Hulk, Speed Muscle, Dragon Kid, Maraha Isappa, etc. all the time. The point was to create the American brand of Dragon Gate, with it's own roster, with international (mostly American) wrestlers, so you can separate it from the original Dragon Gate. Of course, there are always few DG guys to spice things up, like CIMA, Tozawa, and few others.

Gargano, Davis, Sami, Ricochet, Swann, Fox, Taylor, Del Sol, Generico, Jigsaw... They are DGUSA right now.

It is called Dragon Gate USA afterall. No different than any Dragon Gate show in Japan when some American workers come over to be showcased. Key word being some.

Re: Dragon Gate USA: November Tripleshot

There could be a couple more DG guys to come over as long as you either have interesting matchups for them or they're part of a storyline. Yeah it's not all about the Japanese workers but a main point is bringing over guys who you can't really see on any other indy and can't watch without searching a bit. And if it's card space they're worried about just dump The Scene & D.U.F. to make room.

Re: Dragon Gate USA: November Tripleshot

So I've been wondering, where are these guys because I haven't seen them in DGUSA for a while; Shingo, Dragon Kid, Cyber Kong (not sure if he ever wrestled for DGUSA? I have a DGUK show with him on it though). Are they too busy in Japan, did they leave Dragon Gate or what?

Re: Dragon Gate USA: November Tripleshot

The entire point of DGUSA was to develop and showcase top tier indy talent with the occassional DGJapan talent coming in for shows. CIMA would serve as the ambassador of the promotion and teach the US talent the Dragon Gate lucha libre style + Japan tours for some of the talent. During the first couple of shows, the fanbase (including myself) heavily rode Gabe because he was relying on the DGJapan talent instead of investing in original guys like he said he would and thankfully he moved away from that and stuck to his word.

Pair this with their relationship with CZW and as a result we've gotten guys like Moxley, Gargano, Fish, Brodie, Fox, Ricochet, Callihan, Davis, Swann, Uhaa, Del Sol and more + vets like Aries, Jacobs, Spanky, London, Dreamer, Sabu among others. Gabe has an amazing eye for talent and no booker thus far has done a better job of establishing a core roster of distinct talent than he has IMO. PWG came close when I followed them but I heard they stopped using a lot of their guys.

@TheCorre: Dragon Gate (J) talent don't do DGUSA shows unless Oji gives the green light or your name is CIMA; It's why Yoshino didn't come back for shows after WM weekend.

It was more that the company had no storyline or feuds, which hurt it when all the great matchups started to dry up. There can be a healthy mix where you don't over rely on foreign talent while at the same time not having the shows feel like just another indy when most of the guys can be seen other places or in EVOLVE during breaks between DGUSA shows.

I agree, which is why they originally started developing factions in DGUSA mixing American and Japanese wrestlers (such as Kamikaze USA/CHIKARA Sekigun/World 1 USA/Ronin, etc. but they're moving away from this unfortunately). There can be a healthy mix and for the most it has IMO bar this past Summer.

As far as the in-between shows are concerned, the whole point of EVOLVE was to give their DGUSA talent a platform to wrestle in between DGUSA shows. At times it can feel like any other indy, but I'd argue that's a problem with the entire indy landscape in general as everyone wrestles everywhere (a few exceptions of course). For me at least with DGUSA you get invested storylines, consistent booking/pacing and distinct characters. These qualities are not exclusive to DGUSA/EVOLVE of course but I'm" simply more a fan of their ways of doing things.
