Default OVW Wrestling School

Does anyone have any idea on just how good the OVW Wrestling School is nowadays?

I am going to go into the business at some point, just building my funds up at the moment really. I'm actually British so will be taking a few years out of my career to have a shot at the business, and i'm just sort of planning where I will take my training. What do you guys think? Would OVW be the place to go seeing as i'm pretty much a beginner. I'm not a slim guy, i'm very well built and work out at least 4 times a week. I also have extremely good cardio.

Just looking for some advice really! If not OVW... then where?

Cheers.

OVW's beginners training is done by Nick Densmore (WWE's Eugene.) I haven't head of any new WWE signees out of there for awhile but I know they have a relationship with ROH via Jim Cornette and they have WWE talent scouts there probably once a year.

Lance Storm's school out in Canada, Storm Wrestling Academy, has had a few students sign with the WWE in recent history. Might be worth a go?

I'd stay clear of FCW in Florida, however. Their beginners program is more or less a scam. You wont learn anything in FCW unless you have a WWE contract. However a few times a year they do have week long training camps where you can get looked at by WWE talent scouts.

Seriously? I thought they would have a good school, being part of WWE.

That's exactly why they arn't, actually. Most places with schools have the schools in place as a way to train new talent for their promotion. The talent for FCW comes from those that WWE contracts and sends to FCW for additional training. Those trained via the beginner classes (important to note this is not the training that the contracted WWE wrestlers receive) at FCW do not get the opportunity to work FCW shows. Essentially its take your money, have you take a few bumps, and good luck. It's 2 days a week for 3 months with 20 students at a time.

Most promoters in central Florida wont book graduates of FCW beginners classes until they've received additional training elsewhere.

im pretty much in the same boat as you.....from England and looking to go to America next year to learn to wrestle (hopefully)....i was pretty much set on going to the ROH Academy but since they've just been sold to Sinclair, the academy is temporarily closed....and ive been looking around for other academy's and the Team 3D academy looks pretty good

OVW use to have a lower fed too, not sure of they still do, but I believe it was something like Derby City Wrestling or something to that effect. So there was ring time. Personally, I think training with Dinsmore would be the best all around. Not to mention location wise, Louisville is a decent sized city and once trained there's numerous places along the south that you can try to get experience at. Kentucky wouldn't be a bad HQ to branch out of if you consider working in the south and up through Indiana, Ohio, Michigan etc. A lot of wrestlers that trained in OVW still live about Louisville as well.
