Jim Ross: For Kenny Omega to be great he has to come to the WWE

He says it about a minute in.

What do you guys think about this?

I mean he would definitely be more well known if he goes to WWE, however I don't have much confidence in the way they would book him.

Why not? They've booked Balor and AJ just fine. What in your eyes does booking Omega right constitute to?

Misawa & Kobashi were never great then I guess.
They were.

They just were not the stars that Austin and Rock were. Which is his point.

To be considered great by marks who only watch WWE perhaps. Jim Ross has always been a WWE shill. Even when he was mistreated and fired he continued towing the company line in his blogs and podcast just to keep the door open. I don't expect him to trash the company or the product but he always take the pro WWE stance. His reaction to the JBL/Mauro bullying rumours? He admitted he didn't know what went on yet said JBL shouldn't be fired. His reaction to WWE having 2 PPV's per month? The more the merrier! His reaction to Jinder's push? He's paid his dues (completely irrelevant to the problems people have with his push)! The list goes on really. I tune him out when he's not on commentary.

I agree, he's the biggest suck up known to man. he's like an abused wife who stays with the man who's beating her up.
stone cold is becoming the same, he pretends like what the WWE is doing now is good.

To be great?! He's already one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. But I do think he should have a run in WWE. Not now obviously, maybe in 3-4 years(?)

One of the greatest of all time are you serious? The guy isn't anywhere near an all time great. Flair, Steamboat, Race, Hart, Michaels, Misawa, Muta, Choshu, Inoki, Giant Baba, Lou Thesz, Kobashi, Liger, Fujinami, Tenryu etc. are all more revered and historically relevant than Omega. Hell even guys he is colleagues with like Tanahashi and Okada are more historically relevant and more revered than Omega. He has a long long way to go before he is close to being considered among the true elite in pro wrestling history. Could he reach that level? He sure could. Will he? Time will tell. Does he have to go to WWE to reach that level? I don't think it's that important unless it's a fame issue.

WWE has the biggest stage, greatest talent, heaviest schedule & most competition for top spots out of all the wrestling companies. So if you really want to test yourself, it's the place to be. You can obviously still be great outside of WWE. But WWE is where the majority of wrestlers want to be, so naturally it's the place where you properly prove yourself.

I would love to see all the potential dream matches, but he would likely be grossly misused. Except Styles, how well have most of these "indie" guys been used? Vince will never give a fuck about omega.

CM Punk multiple time WWE and world heavyweight champion. Won the IC title and tag titles. Was a clear number 2 at one point surpassing Orton.

Daniel Bryan grand slam champion in 5 years. Main evented a mania. Spent his last few years before his injury as a top 3 guy. Beat Cena clean

Seth Rollin first NXT champ, member of the shield, first person to cash in at mania, 2 time WWE champion. First person to hold WWE championship and US title at the same time.

Dean Ambrose member of the shield, former WWE champion, won the shield triple threat, multiple time IC champ, longest reigning WWE us champ, beat Cena clean.

KO former NXT champ, beat Cena clean first official ppv, former multiple time ic and us champ, longest reigning universal champ. Has won feuds over Reigns and Rollins.

Sami Zayn is the clear go to midcarder and someone to watch

Styles has beat Cena clean and won the WWE championship within his first year.

These Indy guys get treated great. It's not 2001 and they aren't the WCW stars Vince shat on. Get out of the past. If hardcore fans weren't so busy moaning about Reigns being the top new guy over the years they'd have noticed that the majority of the top guys are Indy guys, guys 2-7 are Indy guys. If being a top 2-7 guy is getting treated bad then you're standards are waaaaaaay too high and you'll never be happy

To be great(er) yes. Nothing he said was incorrect. To solidify his name in the history books from a worldwide perspective he needs to come to WWE. NJPW is only popular in Japan.

WWE has the biggest stage

Yes

greatest talent

By sheer volume

heaviest schedule

Why is this a factor for greatness? All those dates means you have to hold back or you burn out super quick. Id rather have a guy wrestle a lot less but tear it up when they wrestle than a dozen mail it in performances

most competition for top spots out of all the wrestling companies.

Not necesarrily. Its well known that guys with great talent like rusev get 'slotted' into positions below their deserved level. In wwe, its not close to true in saying you can grab the brass ring. Its gotta be given to you, like jinder

Ok

If we tow the line that WWE is the place to be, then how can we expect them to improve their product?

Wrestling was FANTASTIC when WWE WAS NOT the place to be. If all the talent are brought up with the attitude that WWE is the only place to be, the WWE can manipulate them in any way they want.

Hey, I'd like £300,000. It's the wage I earn on the independent scene!
I don't think so PAL. WWE is the place to be! You should take a paycut to join us, PAL!
You are right Vince. Jim Ross said that I cannot be great because I am not in the WWE! I will take a £250,000 paycut to join you!
YOU ARE DAMN RIGHT, PAL!

Suddenly the company has people motivated to break the glass ceiling on a dirt low wage while the independents are continuously robbed blind by crooks like Paul Heyman, Jim Ross and whatever other crooks they can think of to sell the agenda that WWE is the place to be.

But wait, here comes the problem they experience today. While the guys are motivated to break the glass ceiling, how can they do so when the WWE prefers to book their own wrestlers above guys who broke out on the independent scene? CM Punk only got to the top of the card when the scent of his independent days were truly scrubbed off him. Daniel Bryan only broke through because the fans completely shut down any attempt for the company to do anything else. How can these wrestlers perform to what they accomplished on the independent scene when they are forced to work the WORST style of professional wrestling on the planet? How can they attempt to perform adequately in promos when they have no character freedom? How can they attempt to connect with the fans when the company DOES NOT WANT them to get over?

So yeah, WWE might be this legendary company that have stood the test of time. Their Wrestlemania moment might be how great wrestlers become main-stream superstars. But in absolutely no fucking way does a wrestler need to take wage cuts and the backstage shenanigans to become a "great" wrestler. Not in the slightest.

Jim Ross is a crook. He isn't a saint like some people believe and let's be fucking honest, if he was truly a victim, he wouldn't keep going back to the same well. There is a reason WWE has treat him the way they have and there is a reason why he kept going back (because he obviously is not that innocent!)

I don't know about you guys, but I think Kenny Omega is already pretty great & he doesn't need to have his career validated by going to a promotion that books some of the best talent in the world like absolute shit.
:draper2

People can bring up the titles some guys like Rollins or Ambrose have won as an example of non-WWE guys being treated fine, but putting belts on people doesn't equal good booking & it never will, & Kenny Omega becoming WWE Champion if he went to WWE won't mean shit if he's treated as an absolute joke as champion. Also, while I disagree about JR using the whole "you have to go to WWE if you need to be great," on the account that there's a huge number of talent that already solidified themselves as all-time greats long before they even bothered with WWE, I can't blame him too much since I think he's signed a new deal with the company.

Ultimately, it'll be Omega's decision, obviously. Personally, do I want to see Omega in the WWE? Yes! Both him and Okada have been killing it in NJPW during 2016 and 2017. Omega is still young and talented, and to further showcase that, especially on a much larger platform... The WWE is the best option for it. :)

With the recent success of Punk, Bryan, Ambrose, Rollins, Owens, Balor, and Styles, will the WWE utilize Omega correctly or to the best of his abilities? I don't know. But, Omega seems to be comfortable in NJPW right now as their current top "gaijin" and whichever choice he actually makes, I'll be fine with it. :agree:
