In an interesting note, while praising Naito for things like match layout, when it comes to his matches both with Elgin in Osaka and his strong match of the year candidate with Omega in Tokyo at the G-1 last year, in both cases it was the opponent who came up with much of the match structure and when to do when, not that he wasn’t involved, but the majority of the layout was by the other guy

Might just mean that Elgin and Omega had great ideas and he was smart enough to listen.

From what I've heard they're basically told the finish and how long they have to go, after that it's up to them. I suppose they might be told to avoid specific moves or high spots if they're planned for other matches further up the card but that's just speculation.

If self-righteous Meltzer knows so much he should just put it out there and tell us that Elgin called that match and that Omega called the other match. Maybe Meltzer doesn't know because he has crappy sources (most likely rumours)

all this really tells me is that Elgin and Omega talk to Dave and are Meltzer marks lel

How does this conversation even go? "Hey Big Dave thanks for liking the match. You know, I put most of the match together so praise me more and make sure to note that. Don't get me wrong, the other guy had some input, but it was 99% me. Dave thanks again for really liking my match it was all my idea so it means a lot."

If true I would praise him on how generous he was in both matches.

In both cases the match wasn't about him. Omega was building to the G1 final. In the Elgin match Big Mike was definitively losing this feud and needed to come out of it as credible as possible.

He helped build a star in Omega and helped Elgin once more prove that he's an elite wrestler. If all he did was stand back, let them get their vision across and take a fucking beating then that's super fucking comendable.

Okada did a similar thing with Marufuji and Ishii in the G1 and Omega on jan 4th. Performing for each other is what makes wrestling work.
