Re: PCW runs a Kris Travis memorial tournament...without donating any proceeds to Kris' family.

I don't see a problem with giving the money to his family. I also see no problem with not asking his family for permission.

However I do have a problem with the 2 combined. To me, there has to be some kind of attempt to actually benefit them. Instead it just looks like his name is plastered on there to help stir up interest and sell tickets.

I was a big supported of the company for years and was really touched by the whole Kris Travis saga (I hate to call it that because it was his real life, after all.) I still want to go to his memorial tournament but this does leave a sour taste.

Honoring someone does not equal profiting from their passing, all the while evading the permission/blessing from that person's family.

They can honor him by simply putting on the best show possible, as opposed to promoting his name to garner sympathy and potentially make more money. By doing business this way, it makes this company come off as greedy and uncompassionate.

I know it may not be the case, but advertising the tournament in his name insinuates money may go to his family or at the very least, have the families permission. I'm shocked the promotion couldn't see them getting backlash when they neglect to do either of these things. Especially when they have "raised about 15k" for him. This whole situation has me considering if smaller organizations should be able to create such a distinction between the person and "character" as this fed has? If they can be separated, will these people's character that were used as marketable commodities when they were alive still be retained, despite not owning licenses to said characters? Again, if so for how long?

I get where they're coming from, they did do a lot for Trav whilst he was ill and there's nothing necessarily wrong with changing the name of the tournament to honour him. If it was for a one off show then it'd be weirder but they've been doing this tournament for a few years now and it just had a generic name like "road to glory" before.

They've done shows previously where the proceeds went entirely to Travis, similarly with merch. It's probably more a case of the owner choosing his words poorly, which wouldn't be the first time for fludder. What Dunne is doing is nice all the same

Tired of Internet fans questioning every single damn thing. Trying to cause problems between people despite their past record of helping.

How much money you donated?

We all have a right to our own opinion. Getting defensive and attacking the perspective of another isn't going to move the conversation forward.

If it was my brother who had passed I wouldn't be okay with any of this. And if you would feel differently in the same situation then please feel free to explain why.

No one here is downplaying their previous charity. But basically that guy is saying that since they already donated money off of Kris's name, he's earned the right to make money off of it without even consulting the family. I find this sort of business practice to be both sad and detestable for reasons already stated.

P.S.

We are all internet fans, even you my friend ;)

I think they definitely should have at least asked the Travs family if they were okay with him using his name. I get that he was a big part of PCW and you could make the argument that he would have been okay with it, but I think having the backing of the family would have helped a lot in the eyes of fans.

GCW had a similar issue late last year. They ran a Trent Acid Memorial Cup show and it was great, but the family didn't appear and IIRC publicly stated that they wanted nothing to do with anything wrestling.

Was hoping I'd read a reply from Seabs here...

Nonetheless I don't really have a problem with them hosting a memorial tournament for him. Heaps of other companies do the same, I just don't like the way they speak to people and treat people that might actually spend money on their product.

Pete Dunne has now removed himself from the show. Added to donate to the cancer charities, he'll still be at Rev Pro and ATTACK!.

Pete Dunne: Fludder made some very insensitive comments, WWE did not pull me from PCW
