Could the major Indy Promotions come together and rival the WWE?

Is this even a possibility? Collectively coming together and forming the best non WWE wrestling promotion on the planet? Discuss.

Re: Could the major Indy Promotions come together and rival the WWE?

When you say indie, do you mean actual independent promotions or are you talking about the major non-WWE promotions?

Because NJPW, ROH, TNA, CMLL, AAA, NOAH, AJPW, LU, and DG are all major promotions. They're not close to WWE but they're in an entirely different league than actual indie promotions. They sign talent to exclusive deals, they have national distribution, and most are owned by multi-million/billion dollar conglomerates.

As to the actual question, the answer is, if all the promotions above decided to team up against WWE, they very likely could give them a run for their money. But as another poster pointed out, beating WWE isn't the goal. The goal is making money and building a promotion that will be sustainable in the long term.

Anyone that tries to take on Vince McMahon head to head on his terms as things stand right now is going to lose, or they're going to lose a hell of a lot of money in "winning". The way to go is the way NJPW and ROH have been going about it: continue to build your own brand in an organic, sustainable way and compete with WWE (or don't) on your own terms.

Re: Could the major Indy Promotions come together and rival the WWE?

There might've been a chance 5 years ago, but the wrestling world outside of WWE has gotten so defined and strengthened that I don't think companies would be willing to give up their respective niche to team with potential competitors. It seems like smaller promotions all over the world like their little slice of the pie and would much rather wait it out until a golden opportunity comes along for them to grow exponentially.

It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what.

I think everyone except ROH and TNA are doing that as much as they can already. At the same time, they also have other things to worry about.

I wouldn't call NOAH, AJPW, TNA, or even ROH or LU "major" promotions, per say. All Japan's rebuilding is going well so they can get on the rise but NOAH is a mess, TNA is stagnant and basically just a smaller indy to ROH who's somewhat of a mess in its own right and LU is just a TV show, one on break mid season as well. DDT is for sure above all of them right now.

I don't think a bunch of teaming up would effect WWE at all. Some working together, sure, but there's not much they can really do together that'll effect anything other than their own brands, albeit marginally. The Super J Cup surely didn't do anything. hell it was the worst tournament that was running last summer(against CWC and BoLA and I dont even like PWG). With ROH and New Japan, it just looks like every single thing they're doing is only really benefiting New Japan. And I don't know how this New Japan thing is gonna go, but Kidani's mouth and their visible shaking of WWE ready to bite at any moment needs to stop a bit. Set down progressively in your home before you decide to invade someone else's screaming about revolution and war, cuz that's where they're coming next and they can get there faster than you can on their turf

Honestly I think Rivaling WWE is what's going to hurt these orgs more than anything if this were to ever happen. Best thing they can do is focus on themselves first before thinking about WWE.

If the territories couldn't do it with Superclash, I doubt indy companies could do it too.

You'll have the same problems they did with the egos of the promoters clashing.

Re: Could the major Indy Promotions come together and rival the WWE?

OP, the ideas of all independent promotions to come together in order to challenge the dominance of WWE...

Is similar to half a dozen midgets like Hornswoggle trying to take down The Big Show.

Now here's the thing-uhh...

Independent promotions may have a few accolades-uhh.. like Hornswoggle was Cruserweight Champion-uhh, RAW GM and Vince's alleged bastard son...

But WWE is... Wellllll..... It's The BIG SHOW.
