Major Announcement on ROH (SPOILER)
A major announcement was made by Steve Corino on this week's ROH on Destination America. I am not sure how long it's been since the taping, and I usually try to avoid spoilers of tape delayed shows. So, I am not sure how many know about this.
Nigel McGuinness made a big announcement about how he could not bring back Corino as a commentator, for hitting BJ Whitmer, but was willing to bring him back as a wrestler, to face Whitmer, who would be cleared to wrestle, in a battle without honor at Final Battle.
Corino and McGuinness shook hands, and it looked like a done deal. Then the promo took a complete 180. Corino announced that his private doctors had told him he needed major neck surgery, and could never wrestle again, and thanked the fans, crew, staff, and wrestlers for their support and announced he would be officially retiring from in ring performing for good.
I am still wondering if his retirement is a work. It would make sense for him to announce his retirement, and Whitmer to spend weeks mocking him and using his son to draw him into a match despite being "injured".
McGuinness seemed legit surprised. That could be acting, or it could be that Corino never told anyone of his plan to retire before making the announcement in the ring.
