I'm looking for another podcast or two to get into. The only wrestling related one I listen to is Grantland's Cheap Heat. They seem to talk about Sam Roberts a bunch on there. Is Austin or Jericho's worth a listen? Meltzer?
Austin is a great interviewer. Very genuine and good at probing his subjects. Good starters are his ones with Bray Wyatt, HHH (from the Network), Johnny Mundo, Kevin Steen, and Samoa Joe.
Meltzer's podcast is dragged down by Alvarez, who tries way too hard to find something to complain about in every TV segment and story he covers. Occasionally Alvarez has a good rant, but it's 1/1000. I greatly prefer Meltzer carrying Sempervive like podcast luggage, particularly when they do their rare Sin Limites after big Japanese shows.
The Steve Austin show is the only good one. The rest genuinely suck so bad it's not even funny, although Y2J will occasionally have interesting guests too.
Austin's is good, probably the only great one with the recent flood of wrestlers doing them (excluding Colt Cabana's). Austin doesn't go full on shoot or anything but unlike Jericho and Jim Ross who are clearly holding back (Ross is boring as shit too) he comes across as far more genuine and is willing to shit on WWE when he doesn't like something. He doesn't go on about it like a dick though and is polite and constructive, but he doesn't ignore it.
Solomonster Sounds Off is another great one as well, check out the TV Trax channel on youtube for some clips if you aren't sure, same goes for the Don Tony and Kevin Castle show. Those 2 are a pair of old asholes from New York who are entertaining to listen to, they can alienate people though and some don't like them but out of all the wrestling podcasts I listen to they are probably the funniest and make me laugh the most.
Don't agree with them typically and somehow I work myself into a shoot listening to them but Voices of Wrestling is maybe the best weekly wrestling podcast going.
Exile on Badstreet comes about every 2-3 weeks and each one involves some of the most knowledgable people in wrestling. There have been episodes on Memphis, early 00's indie wresting, and the demise of JCP. Kris Zellner probably knows far too much about wrestling and him bringing in people like Bix, Dylan Hales, Rob Naylor, and more makes each round an absolute must listen.
The PTBN Reaction Shows are also rather great, hosted by GoodWill. Whether the show in question is good or bad the podcast promises to be an entertaining listen.
My all time favorite is Solomonster Sounds Off - he's a really good podcaster for a guy who does a 1-man-show with very little fan interaction (outside of his email questions / sometimes audio questions from fans). I really like his show every week. I might not agree with him 100% of the time, but he doesn't give off that douchey "I know everything" vibe like some podcasters do.
A close 2nd is Wrestling Soup - which isn't really a dedicated wrestling show ("it's a show that also talks about wrestling" is there tag line). The two hosts (Joey Numbas and Missionary Thomas) are really fun and hilarious. The only thing that SUUUUUUUUCKS about that show is the horrendous 2nd half - when they talk live callers. That last 30 minutes DRAAAAGS ass. Just a bunch of pot heads calling in, sounding horrible, and talking forever just to get their little fame.
If the show stuck with the two hosts strictly - it'd be my all-time favorite. I tend to just listen to the 1st half and delete the episode after that, whereas Solomonster's show is 100% great.
Austin's is "okay" as a 3rd, I guess. He does come off more genuine in shitting on the WWE product when he feels it sucks - but I hate his cheap shilling. He advertises like a son of a gun. Jericho just sucks - ever since his personality has been coming out more and more, I've found him to be just a horrible human being. Jim Ross, also, clearly holds back. He's boring as hell on his podcast.
If you want some feels now he has passed, RIP. Go listen to Rowdy Roddy Pipers back catalogue of his podcast. He recently posted the episode where he ribs Austin and they had supposed bad blood because of it...since refuted by Austin.
Depends on what your into. If your looking for reviews of shows and backstage talk blitzsportsnetwork.com is pretty great. If your looking for the same but with "insiders" the observer radio is good. For guys interviewing wrestlers I like talk is jericho, steve austin show, art of wrestling.
right now the wrestling podcast i enjoy the most is Matt McCarthy's We Watch Wrestling. I still listen to Colt depending on who he has on and started listening to MLW again. i mostly like Courts show i haven't listened to Talkin Shop with Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows.
Of the inside the business interview based podcasts, Austin's is far and away the best and often times the only one worth listening to.
Of the rest of the wrestling podcast world I'd highly recommend anything from the PWO-PTBN Network, Voices of Wrestling, LuchaWorld, WasimCast (only one to listen to on 4CR), CatchCast & J-Shoot from Pro Wrestling Now, and PWPonderings also have a host of quality podcasts.
I like.....
LAW
WOOOOO Nation with Ric Flair
Solomonster Sounds Off
MLW Radio
Austin
Jim Ross occasionally
Human Podcast Machine with Taz - mostly the fantasy draft editions with Mike Tenay
Art of Wrestling occasionally
I keep going through periods of listening to podcasts loads, then never listening to any xD I probably listen to Austin and Jericho's the most. Although like everyone says, when Jericho is interviewing wrestlers, they're usually fairly boring unless you're just really into that wrestler in a cookie cutter kinda way. I mainly listen to his for some of other, out there guests. Enjoyed his one with Zak Baggins, some UFO expert and some conspiracy theorist.
Austin is probably my favourite wrestling one. JR's is boring as fuck. Really really bad, which is a shame, because I generally like JR and usually read his blogs and stuff. Sam Roberts' is decent, and I listen to Cabana's when he has an interesting guest. Recently listened to his 5th anniversary show and he put on a really old interview with Kevin Steen back from 2012 when he was thinking of quitting wrestling that was really interesting.
So yeah to answer your question, I'd go with Austin's.
Art of Wrestling
Live Audio Wrestling
Place to Be Vintage Vaults
PWPonderings
Talk is Jericho
The Ross Report
Wrestling Observer/Figure 4/Bryan and Vinny/Stern/Dr, Keith. Pretty much everything from WO/F4D
wrestling soup, don tony & kevin castle and steve austin are my favs. i like jerichos he is good at what he does having radio experience before the podcast. people just need to take it for what it is. its more about having a fun chat i really liked his interviews with hhh, paige, seth rollins, the new day and paul heyman & edge. more about stories than grilling i do have to skip the first 15 mins to avoid the avalanche of plugs.
Austin's is only pretty serious on the network because hes asking questions that need to be asked in a short time period. his can be fucking funny. i remember one of the first podcasts i heard was austin talking about holding in a fart in the gym and then trying to save a dying squirrels life lol. another episode him and kevin nash were talking about what toilet roll they use and then they were going through uber facts and saying which ones seemed real and seem bullshit.
wrestling soup and dt & kc are fucking hillarious. i use so many of their catchphrases in normal conversation like "i work so hard" "im feeling accomplished" and "its my house now!!!" i love their crossover shows. and out of all the wrestling podcasts, i listen to every episode each week.
For me nothing beats The Bryan and Vinny Show. Although, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez are also really good together. Anyway, anything with Bryan Alvarez is awesome.
