This was taken from today's (1st March 2015) Sun on Sunday (obviously take it with a pinch of salt as they aren't the most credible of papers.

Simon Cowell wants Brit wrestling stars like Big Daddy back on TV.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, who was a huge fan of the late ring giant as a kid in the 1970s admitted he would love to see the sport make a telly comeback.

And insiders are now tipping the 55-year-old music mogul as the man to revive British wrestling.

After seeing a grappling act on his ITV talent show, Simon admitted, "I used to watch it as a kid- I used to do it!"

"Now American wrestling's big. I think it's a good idea to bring it back. But you have to bring back really big people."

A source said: Simon seemed really exited about bringing back wrestling. If anyone can get it back on the box, he can."
Anyone got any thoughts on this? Do we need to bring back really old guys to get a 'drawing' power or should Cowell branch out into the UK indie scene to see that maybe he doesn't need to do that at all, he very well could create the drawing power with the talent out there already.

ICW has been incredibly successful as of late and there are many strong UK indie promotions out that there have strong connections with US indie promotions.

Interesting to see this pop up in a paper especially considering you could arguably say that the whole territory feel that used to surround wrestling is essentially making a come back with the incline in indie talent and promotions.

Simon Cowell actually worked with the WWE back in the late 80's/early 90's on the production of some terrible album.

I would love to see him a part of it's return to mainstream British TV but I can't really see it.

That's cool to hear but I have never seen people who aren't fans of pro wrestling treat it so shitty like those in the UK do. They're worse than those "progressive" Hollywood assholes we have.

Don't know if it could work cause all they might say is "Who watches this rubbish?" or "Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks were way better than this shit! I miss the good ol' days!".

Cowell sure has the money to burn but that's the only role he should have is as a sleeping partner because there are a good mix of indie scenes in England & rest of Britain.
As for Big Daddy or Giant Haystacks that'd be a disaster considering all the coaching talent being used in TNA & NXT (not that they'd entertain Cowell) if Cowell is serious he should contact the local wrestling training schools (like the Knights) and all the 'territory' promotions throughout the UK to really see what talents are interested in his financial clout.
Be Ted Turner all over again...

Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks both died over 15 years ago.

I'll tell you something, what Cowell is really good at doing is emulating American mediums with a British sentimentality. That's what he does with all his chart topping acts, he even takes some of them to America and beats them at their own game (one direction)

So if you got Simon Cowell to essentially recreate the WWE in a British environment, using British talent ... with great production values and compelling narratives, sex appeal and and over-all a very British sensibility ... it really could work.

Not to mention he's a closet homosexual so he definitely would have a hands on approach.

This has all stemmed from wrestlers appearing on Britains Got Talent, it's a very poor source as well.

If there is any interest, it will be from him being a smart guy and seeing what has drawn good ratings on UK tv. As much as people give him stick, he's got his finger on the pulse (of what makes money) and has never been afraid to take a calculated risk.

A good wrestling show at a decent time on terrestrial tv should be able to draw around 1 million viewers, which ICW has shown to be possible. So it's something I expect to be explored by those in TV Land.

It was only on terrestrial tv for a small period of time towards the end of the Attitude Era, and its still on TV 15 years later. Some blunder.

WTF? Big Daddy & Giant Haystacks are Legends of UK Wrestling, gone but never forgotten & NEVER BETTERED! And as for Simon Cowell, keep him far away from anything wrestling related or he'll turn in into Britain's Got Talent type shit & No-one wants to see any more of that shit, unless they're already brain dead from too many chair shots to the head.

Message to Simon Cowelll: FUCK OFF!
