Kaiju Big Battel

Has anyone seen this, or even heard of it? Any fans?

When I was a pre-teen, I stumbled across the DVD 'Kaiju Big Battel'. It had bright green and yellow colors across the front with two monsters (men in suits) battling among buildings. I didn't know anything about it, but it was over-the-top enough for me to get it with some birthday money. Little did I know, it was actually a wrestling 'promotion' set in Boston that parodies and combines kaiju-like creatures (kaiju = Godzilla, Gamera, ect) and professional wrestling. They have their heels (the major heel of KBB is Dr. Cube) and faces. The ring is scattered with small buildings, which are used to the kaiju wrestlers advantage. And occasionally, some of the monster characters will get killed off and sent to the graveyard. Silver Potato, who was at one point the Daniel Bryan of KBB, was killed off a few years ago. It's cheesy as all hell, but lots of fun and pretty damn entertaining.

Search it on YouTube. You'll find plenty of videos and matches.

Re: Kaiju Big Battel

I've heard people love going to these shows while high.

Quote:
There was a report from Japan from the owner of a wrestling store saying that Mistico was in terrible pain the entire Japanese tour, and at the 1/18 Korakuen Hall show (the second to last show), he was in tears backstage. The wrestlers from New Japan told him he needed to go to the hospital, but his seniors in CMLL told him he would be okay if he just drank heavily (that is something of a Mexican protocol in some circles).

I came to know about this thing because Leva Bates performed as one the monsters on a few shows recently. I had seen Dr Cube in Chikara in the past without knowing what it was.

I like wacky wrestling but not a fan of this at all. Actually It doesn't really feel like wrestling but more like some mockery made for hipsters and non-wrestling fans.

Re: Kaiju Big Battel

I've been a KBB fan for over ten years now. Probably around '01. I'm from MA and these guys started in the late 90's as a thing some guys from Mass Art did for fun and it just got bigger. I love Japanese Kaiju films so this was a no brainer. If you're looking for 5 star wrestling, this isn't for you. The wrestling is minimal for the most part. It's just a means for this craziness to take place in front of people without the boring stage aspect. I don't know if you've ever seen Hoodslam but it's kinda like that, but less wrestling. Some guys are actually pretty good though, like Neo Teppen. That guy can pull off some cool shit.
