Re: LIGER is the NEW NWA JR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

Liger won't be defending the belt outside of Japan so it's probably not a great idea to put the WORLD Junior Heavyweight Title on a wrestler who barely leaves Japan these days.

File under 'How out of touch is the NWA?' Nice 50th birthday present for him, I guess.

Are the NWA just a singular promotion now, or are they still with multiple groups?

They've got about 30 promotions under their banner but only about 5 decent ones.

Re: LIGER is the NEW NWA JR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

LIGER. YES.

Seems arbitrary to complain about it when someone like Mike Quackenbush was once their champion for over three years, lives in American and didn't defend it much all at the same time. And only did it in the same country pardon one defense, iirc. If it's a "World Championship", fact it's gonna get some exposure in a different country isn't half bad. And it's on the most recognizable Junior Heavyweight ever, regardless of being in his "prime". I've seen the NWA do worse. It was on Ricky Morton earlier this year.

Liger leaves Japan a lot. He was just in England and Germany like.... last month. He wrestled for wXw (I know because Kazuki Hashimoto was in the tournament that was taking place at the same time and Tananashi was on the card the 3rd night.) and for ASW in England. He's wrestled for ROH and PWR this year as well. Liger will wrestle anywhere.

NWA promotions can't afford to bring the likes of Liger in though. 99.9% of these promotions are ran at the local high school gym in front of 75 people.

I like Liger I'm a huge fan of his and think he'll likely have some decent matches defending this belt but it seems to defeat the purpose of having a territory system and putting a World Title on a guy if he is only going to defend it in one territory.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong though. I'm happy to eat crow if Liger does a tour of the American NWA promotions.

Re: LIGER is the NEW NWA JR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

NWA promotions can't book him b/c you say? They had Satoshi Kojima work a brief USA tour while he was their World Champion, so...

Re: LIGER is the NEW NWA JR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

Kojima defended the title a couple of times in the states. Liger would be a great draw for these smaller promotions.
