Bay Area (not the east side of course) is far more gorgeous than fucking New Orleans. NOLA has no geographic beauty whatsoever, that market is all about the culture.

One step in the Bay Area and you'll be amazed.

Maybe they can come to Los Angeles instead. It's 6 hours away from Mania 31, but closer to my house

Get that stadium built next to STAPLES and it'll happen.

I want it to happen.

Depends upon your taste: New Orleans has beautiful architecture, and local wetlands and wildlife areas if you care ot venture out of the city.

The thing NOLA has that is unique is a massive gathering area (the French Quarter) in one place that's not away from either the Superdome or the Convention Center (where Wrestlecon and Axxess were) that has everything from bars to restaurants to strip clubs to ... you name it. Everybody in NOLA for whatever event (convention, football game, WM, etc.) parties in one place. That's why so many people ran into wrestlers out on the town, because that's where they all went, too.

I'm sure the Bay Area has lots of great places, but I don't think you can go to Fisherman's Wharf and say, 'Well, this is where everybody is going to be.'

SF is a great city. So is NOLA.

Oh I loved NOLA, and plan to visit it again in the future, hopefully for a major game involving the Seahawks or Huskies.

I don't think that's an issue anymore to be honest. Vince will take any indy guy he wants and make them HIS type of guy anyways....he doesn't NEED the "Indie Superstar" anymore, he is going to take them and build his own model out of them anyways.

Marilyn Manson has been banned from appearing in certain cities and states, for instance -- which means a venue cannot get an event license to host a MM concert in those places.

The Democratic and Republican national conventions also reach agreements with host cities not to issue permits to protest groups (public assembly in most places requires a permit to gather) within a certain distance of the host arena. They may not shove them completely out of town, that would result in bad publicity, but they do push them away from immediate proximity of the event itself.

WWE brings an economic impact of many millions of dollars to whatever city it takes WM to, and with that it can make demands. If City A says, no, we're going to stand up for Whatever Arena's right to rent its 400-seat arena to DGUSA that week, then WWE can say go right ahead, we're going to City B. Now it's not likely that WWE can make that kind of deal with all the surrounding cities -- i.e. it may have an agreement in place for Santa Clara (and according to what I heard from someone who works for ROH, they believe that is so) but it probably doesn't have an agreement for neighboring towns which have their own licensing boards.

So at worst, I'd expect WWE to be able to push indy shows far enough away to make it inconvenient for people to attend, but not to stomp them out entirely. The biggest victim might be Wrestlecon, which would need to rent a convention center of some size to hold its event, and needs steady traffic all weekend to make it work -- if that's too far away it would be tough to make a go (tougher than any individual indy show, which doesn't need steady day-and-night traffic -- just a decent crowd to show up for a few hours).
I think you're giving way too much credit to what local government is allowed to do. You might have to go an get a license for the event from the city your in (I honestly don't know) but I don't think the city is going to be allowed to deny your license because a competitor paid the city to deny your license. All of the sources that I can find say that the no compete clause is for city owned facilities and for larger corporate hotel chains that agreed to do it but I've read nothing that says it's with everyone and I don't think they would be able to make that kind of promise to WWE.

Whether liberal or conservative, all politicians love to pick winners and losers just so they could attach their name to popular things or promise things or whatever. Almost all cities have laws saying you can't have mobile food trucks within a certain distance of restaurants selling equivalent food items. Why? The business owners pay off politicians. They sell nearly the same high quality for a fraction of the price. Like indy wrestling.

After Gabe's 'epic' shows during the last WM weekend all I can say is - Fine.

No one is trying to say "Hey, WE are the best, not WWE" there. DGUSA , ROH, etc are simple leechers, as far as this weekend goes.

Well, I believe that they can and that was what I was told, but we'll see.

If WWE is serious about keeping competition away, it could also simply scout all suitable arenas for indy shows within, say, a 30-mile radius and rent them out to keep them empty.

It's a matter of how cost-effective that might be, or projected to be, but I'm pretty sure WWE could afford it.

All I know is what I heard from the ROH guy and that there was a buzz about the same thing going around WM30 weekend, so I have to believe there is something to it.
