Default The Crying Wrestling Fan....What Was Jim Cornette's Response?

I'm sure everybody has seen the clip i'm referring to.....the 'It's still real to me dammit!' youtube legend Dave Wills.

What I would love to see though is the immediate reaction from the panel to this rather excessive emotional outburst.

I think it was one of those NWA Legends fanfests maybe and I would really love to know what the response was...especially from Cornette.

If anyone has seen the DVD and can recall what was said I'd apreciate if you could please let me know, thanks.

haha yeah ive just been watching it and it still makes me laugh after all these years.

Its frustrating though how all the clips cut off before we can see the reaction from the midnights and cornette.

Ive seen pretty much all of cornette's shoots and I dont think he's ever been quizzed about this. I could be wrong though. I hope someone has a transcript or a link to a full video or something.

While this isn't the immediate response you were looking for...Jim Cornette was asked about this moment and here is what he said:

Q. What went through your mind when you were with Funk and Bobby and the guy started yelling, “It’s still real to me damn it!”

A. David Wills is a great wrestling fan, and he became over come with emotion seeing his heroes. He is a smart man, and once the world found out he was smart, the major talk shows backed off. He is a great guy, and we had a great time talking about him. I am a lot like him, although I may not cry…but I have seen some stuff that will make me cry recently. WWE started ECW to run the small buildings and take them away from TNA, and that product is PERFECT for small venues I will tell you that! I will say again, you cannot polish a turd and they are finding that out right now.

I don't get why people laugh or make fun of the guy.

He wasn't crying because he thought wrestling is real. He cried because he thanked guys he looked up to as a kid for beating their bodies up so bad for his entertainment. He probably thought back to watching wrestling as a kid and now he's an adult seeing these guys now.

The guy doesn't deserve to be made fun of.

I don't believe I or anyone here made fun of the guy exactly....I think i described his actions quite carefully to be honest.

To me, a fully grown man crying about wrestling IS funny though and you didn't need to get all serious about it really. Theres enough misery in the world already I think. Plus, the guy himself doesn't seem to mind people finding humour in the clip. If anything I bet he likes the attention he gets from it. I bet he's been on wrestling radio shows all over the place thanks to that clip and the amount of people who find it funny or uplifting. From where I'm standing, everything looks rosey....Dave Wills is happy for the clip to be shown and people get a quick laugh. I don't quite understand the conflict you are trying to create.

He gets made fun of because he did something that was totally ridiculous. We know that he doesn't actually think it's really but his reaction to getting to speak to those guys was so over the top and absurd that you can't help but laugh at the guy. I love wrestling and I have since I was a little kid. I can never see myself reacting that way just because I had the chance to tell someone that I was/am a big fan of theirs and that I appreciate everything they did.

Yeah I met Bret Hart at a book signing a few years back. I was a fan of his for years as a kid and into my teens. Then when he was screwed by vince and ruined by wcw and fucked up by goldberg and the stroke and owen's death....I really felt bad for the guy. All that bad shit happening to your childhood hero is pretty emotional stuff.....I met him and shook his hand and got my book signed. Nobody needs to wet their pants and cry when meeting wrestlers. Thats not a normal thing to do actually.

This is my first time seeing the clip and I have no problem with him showing emotion on that level. That's what it means to him.
