Question NXT format?

Okay, so I've stopped watching NXT after the first two seasons. Now I'm seeing new guys on WWE RAW lately. It's like this, the first time that I've seen Dean Ambrose in action was last night. So, it got me thinking: Did he just win NXT or something like that?

Now, I've been seeing a lot of people talking about Dean Ambrose since that fucking Ambrose > Foley video on youtube.

I start looking through the archives of NXT posts on WWE.com, nothing. It doesn't document his rise to fame. Meh, not detered, I came over to Wrestling Forum and to no avail, of what his status is in NXT.

Then all of a sudden, I read "NXT Champion" over and over. I then asked myself: "Is there a new NXT format?" The NXT that I know is a program that starts with 19 or 15 newbies fighting for the chance at winning that season. They used to call them "NXT Winner."

What happened? Someone update me here? I'm now confused.

Isn't it a formula of WWE to debut NXT stars until right after the NXT season is finished? What's the format now?

Dean Ambrose is every bit as effective as Rollins, but there's something slightly off about this dangerous competitor. From the moment he marched onto the scene, WWE NXT fans were unable to take their eyes off Ambrose. Fearless, wild and always unpredictable, the iconoclast more than lived up to his reputation as a world-class competitor and infamous troublemaker.

In October last year, Ambrose created quite a stir when WWE champion CM Punk appeared at NXT for an autograph signing. Ambrose decided to verbally assault Punk on the microphone, resulting in a raucous and unforgettable scene when The Straight Edge Savior challenged Ambrose that evening. The 30-minute showdown between the two physical competitors blew away the lucky fans who witnessed it.

Starting with Season 6, NXT took the place of what was Florida Championship Wrestling - where Dean Ambrose was featured, and had an amaaaaaazing little feud with Seth Rollins. It's a one hour wrestling program, sort of like WCW Saturday Night. The developmental guys, and some of the C-list WWE roster, are featured.

It's pretty much the best hour of television on the WWE lineup. When it was Florida Championship Wrestling, it was still pretty much the best hour of WWE TV. That's because they sort of gave Dusty & the developmental team the reins and they just do whatever. . .

I know all about FCW. I know he started there, but from NXT to WWE, what made him over WWE talent relations? Did he win a NXT title or win Season 6, er, something like that?

And wow, WWE's actually using FCW now more than ever.

Ah, yes. The WWE calls everything that was FCW under the NXT logo since the switchover. But all of Ambrose's developmental was on the old FCW program. The match with CM Punk, specifically, was on the October 21st program of last year.

They've retconned FCW as NXT since it took over as the developmental show earlier in the year. The stupid as hell format with the 'rookies' was thankfully scrapped. NXT has now effectively taken the place of FCW TV, only with higher production values, better storylines and a higher caliber of talent.

NXT isn't a competition anymore. It's just a wrestling show.

Edited for Inaccuracy: Rollins had been the FCW 15 champ - sort of like the old TV title, back in the day. He'd also been the FCW Champion and the NXT champion. Ambrose had been in the title scene, but had not won a title. He feuded with Rollins and Richie Steamboat - who should be next man up, aside from Ohno, who should have been the third man in this story instead of Rocky's cousin. IMO.
