WWE's Feelings On Kassius Ohno

A lot of fans were wondering why NXT star Kassius Ohno, the former Chris Hero, didn't debut with Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns on Sunday night at WWE's Survivor Series pay-per-view.

We noted recently that WWE officials were talking about bringing some NXT stars to the main roster and the Survivor Series angle was the result of that. Ohno was never talked about in regards to being brought to the main roster now. Officials are high on Ohno but the feeling is that he needs more "seasoning" before being called up

Seasoning? Hes been wrestling since late 90s. Reigns has been wrestling since 2010.

Well yeah, he's not exactly done the best in FCW/NXT. I mean his NXT work blows the FCW stuff out of the water (which says a lot about how lacklustre that was) but he's still not on the level he's achieved elsewhere. Reigns has a better look than him for the group that called up anyway, he looks like a better enforcer. Ohno still needs work, WWE is something that needs adapting to. Look how long Rollins was down in developmental and it's done him a world of good compared to his ROH days. Cesaro got it straight away though, shame his partner couldn't. I assume he'll get there eventually.

I really hate how wwe chops people's movesets down. Both Cesaro and Ohno have hugely unique movesets that could really help add to the uniqueness of their matches, yet wwe insists on stripping guys down to generic, "once you've seen one match you've seen them all" type movesets that really hinder growth on an inring scale.

Translation = "better hit the steroids kid.."

Not that I disagree with it, but, other than his shape, I don't know what other seasoning he needs tbh?
fixed that for you.. every wrestler lifts weights and exercises, i'm pretty sure its even in their contract. they have to in order to stay in condition to physically wrestle a 10+ minute match. not every wrestler is on steroids however, that is why there is such disparty in size from guy to guy.

if nobody in WWE was juicing, most of the roster would look like CM Punk, i.e. someone who does exercise but doesnt juice so they never become a real freak of nature. People who get to be 250lbs+ naturally end up looking fat like brodus clay, because without the roids you can't stay ripped at 250lbs.

I'm sure Ohno will be apart of a group of guys that debut after Mania if he hasn't already. By then, he'll most likely have leaned up and fine tuned his character enough for the main roster. I wonder if he and/or Bronson will be protege's/enemies of Barrett's upon their respective debuts.

I'm not buying that his in ring style and adapting to the style is holding him back. I've seen a ton of his matches from the indies and the guy can literally do anything in the ring. I've seen him and Cesaro work a match like they were luchadors for 10 minutes. In ring wise the guy can do anything.

Maybe character wise he needs work. I honestly haven't been following him in NXT/FCW, as I just don't do that with anyone in developmental. On the other hand I've seen him play a few different types of characters and he's always entertaining. He did some awesome heel stuff in ROH when he was with Sweet 'N Sour Inc. and he was hilarious.

Ohno/Hero is something that I have total faith in when it comes to getting into WWE and doing well.

...but he's not over on either Raw or Smackdown (for obvious reasons), so I don't see how this applies to Ohno? His work might have translated well to the audiences on smaller stages but it doesn't nesseccarily mean that he will be a success on the main WWE roster.

Unfortunately his physique probably is an issue (which is stupid).

I think more than likely they will be wanting him to work on the WWE style a bit more, it is often the case that guys who have a lot of experience in other companies have their own ways of working a match, which WWE might not think translates well on TV.

He will never do it to the main roster with this kind of shape. Ambrose hit the gym and he has now a quite good muscular look (he's no ryback i know). In 2005 Punk worked a lot on his body too. It's not too difficult to understand. His beard will not help him enough
Thank the baby turnbuckle leg-drop Jesus for that.

The concern has to be his physique. He needs to get in better shape and then prove he can stay in shape. He was a former fat guy, and I think his genetics are shit so that he could never be cut or muscled up, but he can lose the love handles and bulk up a bit. If he worked out twice as hard and as much as Cesaro he'd never look like him. But he needs to take weight training much more seriously than he ever has.

I think many of you really take to heart the physique of the wrestler as something that actually matters. It does, but not nearly as much as you would like it to. Ohno isn't out of shape, and I would bet he is in better shape than most of you. The fact that he isn't some muscle freak makes him more of a realistic person. Many people still associate steroids with wrestling, and lets be honest muscles don't define a wrestler's skill. The Miz is nothing of a spectacle either, and he was a a former WWE champion who defeated John Cena at Wrestlemania.

Ohno doesn't need to work on his physique. He needs to work on getting himself on the main rosters. Right now he is the biggest name that NXT has. No one on the show has made a name for themselves outside of the WWE better than Ohno has currently on the NXT roster. What he has done thus far in FCW/NXT has been done very well. I feel as though he has had some bright spots, and some areas of work. However, at this point I feel he is certainly ready for a call up at any given time. Ohno vs Tensai, book it. Ohno knocks out Tensai for beating his slave again.

Look, I totally agree with you.

Sadly, I am not the owner and de-facto god of the largest and most profitable wrestling promotion in the world. And the guy who is totally doesn't see it for anybody who isn't ripped to the gods!

I'm not a guy who usually gives a fuck about physiques but Ohno just looks so fucking out of shape that I just can't take him seriously. I mean, he has a big saggy gut, love handles and really small arms. It just makes him look like he doesn't care and that's NOT something you want to come across when people see you.

Really it's a lot fucking easier to get into good shape than it is to become a great worker or a good talker. He already has those two attributes so it's bizarre he doesn't just focus on getting in shape and then the call-up will surely come. Maybe he has 'bad genetics' but there's no way the shape he's in is the best he can do.

His physique is the only thing keeping him down there imo. It's not even that he isn't ripped or built like a Greek God. He just looks very out of shape. His gut is flabby and he has love handles hanging over the sides of his trunks. It doesn't look good. His character progression has been great, his mic work has been good and his ring work has been impressive and that all works against the NXT guys because they're still pretty unknown. But if they were to call him up and put him against an established or even a semi established name on the current roster, he would look like shit compared to them. His gimmick is that he fucks people up because he wants to and he can. In order to get that across he needs to have the build to pull it off. Hitting the weights, adding some bulk and getting rid of that gut will work wonders for him.

Totally agree man, basically what I said but written a lot better. I get the impression he just doesn't give a fuck about getting into good shape which doesn't bode well for him. People go on about Punk being in bad shape, but he looks like fucking Rick Rude compared to Ohno.

listen to his interview with colt cabana. the guy just isnt interested in working out. genetics can only hold him back so much, he is tall so vince must be semi hard for him already. all he really needs to do is go hard in the gym until hes got a normal amount of muscle and vince is gonna call him up in no time. as it is he looks worse than punk, which is not a good thing.

If it is the case then all it's doing it sending the message that he doesn't care enough to do everything it takes to make it and that's the WRONG message to send, especially in the wrestling business. I don't know how long it's been since NXT started but I haven't noticed any change in his physique at all. That's not right. Unless there's some medical condition we don't know about, dude needs to get off his ass and start lifting or he's going to stay in NXT and watch everybody pass him by.

To be fair, this picture was taken basically right after he signed, and after 6 months when he stopped working out and taking any supplements because he had high testosterone during his first wwe physical and that raised red flags so the wwe passed on signing him then so Kassius needed to prove he had naturally high testosterone so had to quit anything that might raise it.

He also has bad genetics, and is a former fatty, meaning his skin is probably saggy to begin with. He could never be a muscled up monster, so if he was ripped he'd probably then be seen as too skinny. I think he could find better ring gear, wear a singlet with the mid thigh cut or something. Have some spanx hold in his gut/love handles.

Since concerns over his physique have been addressed. I figured I'd bring up another concern: With Barrett now using the 'Bull Hammer', is Ohno going to have to change his finisher or has he already? I haven't watched NXT in a while now.
