Re: whats the use?
All of those shows DO have a purpose
Saturday Morning Slam is a show just for the kids. Hopefully having an exclusive kids show would allow WWE to make RAW and SmackDown a little more Edgy.
Superstars is just meant to showcase wrestlers who may or may not get time on RAW or SmackDown
Main Event is basically C-show matches with main event level talent.
NXT actually does have a true purpose, which is to groom the developmental guys who are ready to be on TV, but still aren't really ready for primetime. The main roster talent such as Antonio Cesaro, Alex Riley, Tyson Kidd, Jinder Mahal, and Michael McGillicutty are meant to be "draws" for the NXT shows, to draw eyes to the new guys. However, I hate when the commentators talk about the main roster guys as possible contenders to the NXT Championship, as the minor league belt would be a step down for them
I agree with the OP in terms of what's the use of all these shows however. With the brand split basically over and WWE pretty much only focusing on RAW, why not just drop the pretense that the brands are equal and let SmackDown fulfill the purposes of Main Event and Superstars. Make RAW the show for all of the top guys and make SmackDown the show where midcarders get to shine, and then put something like Cena vs. Miz for ticket sales/ratings. Keep Saturday Morning Slam as the pure kiddie show.
