I feel like it started going downhill after Nxt takeover Brooklyn 1 back in 2015. 2013 was great with characters like Paige,Corey,Bray etc. 2014 was awsome with the Cesaro/Zayn and Zayn/Neville feuds.
2015 was when the womens division was amazing. I'm leaning towards 2015 for the best year.
The last three quaters of 2014 into the first two thirds of 2015 were gold. Whilst that implies 2014 edges it, I'd personally be hard pressed to put one that far above the other.
If I had to pick a year, it'd be roughly September 11 '14 to Aug 22 '15
2014 for me, easily. Dusty Rhodes was still around "molding" and improving new NXT talents, the NXT TakeOver shows proving that they are in fact a "brand" and not a developmental, and the overall quality of the matches.
The NXT matches in 2014 were simply incredible, such as: Cesaro/Zayn, Charlotte/Natalya, Neville/Zayn/Breeze/Kidd, Charlotte/Sasha, and Neville/Zayn.
NXT in 2014 also experienced the "rise" of The Four Horsewomen, the debuts of both Owens and Balor, and much more. :aj3
2014 for me. Cesaro/Zayn in the early part, Zayn/Neville later and the arrival of the indy guys created a huge buzz without totally dominating.
I have an idea that 2017 could be a good year. For a long time now it's been Nakamura, Nakamura's opponent and some other matches to fill up the hour. The upper midcard is now really strong with several storyline options, a mix of indy/PC guys (Strong, Almas, Clark, Murphy, Black, Ohno...) who are evenly matched and a tag team division that has exploded. If creative know what they are doing, they could do a lot with that.
2014, no question. I didnt care for womens wrestling so I didnt care for 2015, and 2015 was the year Balor dominated as champ, which to be honest, IMO, it was pretty boring. 2014 was the best year, Sami was the heart and soul of NxT, and still is, and produced one of the best matches of the last decade against Neville when Sami finally won. His underdog storyline was better than any other feud in NxT history. Plus (Neville, Tyler, and Tyson) were all amazing wrestlers and were tearing the house down every night.
This for me was the best year, but by profit, I think 2015 was when they really started to flourish. And the came from Full Sail to other arenas. But no doubt the couldnt have done it without Sami and the work in 2014.
Though I loved the beginning of 2015, because of the rise of Kevin Owens.
That year had it all. Good matches, great moments, cool characters on various places on the cards, interesting stories with resolutions and the brand itself grew exponentially. How ironic that NXT's height (in my opinion, R-Evolution) would immediately lead to it's downfall, in my opinion.
I can't fathom anyone saying anything other than 2014. The show was at its peak in all but two categories in that year. 2015 was the beginning of the end for NXT.
Even though 2015 has some bright moments like Brooklyn and Rival IMO, 2015 as a whole was really the start of the downfall of NXT
