He's back!

ORLANDO, FL -- In an exclusive interview just moments after his surprise appearance at NXT TakeOver Orlando, Drew McIntyre confirmed to ESPN that he's joined the brand full time.

For the second straight year, an unexpected appearance at NXT TakeOver during WrestleMania weekend shocked the crowd. This time around, it was a familiar face as former WWE superstar Drew McIntyre appeared in the front row prior to the NXT championship match in Orlando.

If there was any doubt to his intentions, they were put to rest during an exclusive post-TakeOver interview with ESPN.com

"Well the answer's pretty simple," said McIntyre. "I've won championships all across the world, I've helped build brands. So what's the next logical thing for me to do? It's to come here and win the NXT title."

It's hard to take attention away from competitors as charismatic and popular with the crowd as Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode, but McIntyre did just that when his face flashed on camera. The assembled crowd at Orlando's Amway Center cheered wildly for the returning Scotsman, and NXT fans will have a lot more of that to do in the coming weeks and months.

"If that's not clear enough for everybody, Drew McIntyre has signed with NXT," said McIntyre, definitively.

With Roode defeating Nakamura, the unclear NXT championship picture in the future is now a little more crowded. A former WWE intercontinental and tag team champion, McIntyre returns after a nearly three-year absence from the company. In that time he worked for numerous independent organizations including EVOLVE, where he was an EVOLVE championship, two-time tag team championship (with one reign alongside Johnny Gargano).

Huh.

I mean, from what I watched from Galloway and how he carries himself, his overall look and size, and just how he works, the dude should be a main event talent anywhere right now.

That being said, I don't know if WWE will ever use him to his fullest potential, and I'm not really sure if I would prefer him to be in WWE/NXT. I think I'd rather watch him tear it up in the indies instead. But we'll just have to see where this 2nd term goes...

If they made a big deal about his signing by having him appear in the crowd just before the NXT Title match, he's gonna be inserted into the NXT main event scene when Nakamura is called up.

I think this time around he's gonna reach his full potential. It took a stint in the indies for him to come into his own.

almost to the mountain top
slip and fall just like a stone
rolling ever faster
to this nightmare you have sown

you had it all right in your grasp
but in a breath, your minute passed
now at last the time has come
you are all alone

Some prophetic lyrics given his career arc. Man, he better keep this theme.

DREW'S BACK :mark:

3 years he lost his job and it was the best thing to ever happen to him. He got to completely reinvent himself, and establish himself as one of the best in the world. EVOLVE/TNA/ICW/PWG/WCPW. He's had classic matches and awesome title runs. Dude is legit and its time to come home and FINALLY take his spot as the Chosen One

Thought he'd go right back up to RAW but :mark: nonetheless.

Out of all the guys who left WWE to perform on the indies, Galloway is the one who's impressed me the most of the past 3 years. Hope his second run is better than the first.

As someone who has been recently following his work in TNA, Evolve, WCPW, etc., cool to see. He's grown leaps and bound as a performer.

And really good to see him going to NXT first. On the main roster, as much he's grown, I don't know if he would be any higher than Hawkins or Mahal. But by going to NXT, he'll get the chance to show he's changed.

Exactly. He's improved so much. By going to NXT, it almost guarantees that will he not get lost in the shuffle, he'll be pushed as one of the top guys. That guarantee isn't there for him right now on Raw or SD.

Re: Drew McIntyre Confirms WWE Signing - Joins NXT Brand

Drew was always very good - early in his run he had some borderline great matches, but then the usual post debut hype depush came and he got a little jaded, then he was dog housed for that domestic incident and buried and he seemed to completely lose interest and was just going through the motions. He was 23-24 yrs old when he was getting "The Chosen One" push and maybe it was all too soon for him. He's all of 31yo now, just entering his wrestling prime where your experience starts to peak while you still have your physical prime abilities. If he can keep the right mind set, I think the sky is absolutely the limit for him to the level he could main event a WM down the line.

I like him in NXT as well - debut him on the main roster and he's a mid-card guy after thought that the lazy bookers probably team him with Heath or Jinder to fill a throwaway match time slot. In NXT he'll be treated as big shit, be a top guy and re-introduced to wwe fans as a future top guy. He needs the 3MB stank off him first and farmost, and once upon a time NXT was also used to give main roster guys a reboot.

He better damn well keep his original music.

Re: Drew McIntyre Confirms WWE Signing - Joins NXT Brand

This thread is why NXT has been an awful wrestling show for the past 2 years. Yay a guy who SHOULD be on the main roster is going to be stuck doing nothing of note on a shitty "develeopmental" brand who's only creative output is being able to do the same "X veteran comes in to feud with Y veteran for the title while up and coming Z youngin who could use that exposure much more stays down the card."

How fucking exciting :lmao

I hope they dont waste him again this time but I am sure they will after a few months especially once he is called up again

Would have rather seen him debut at WM to challenge KO for the US title after he beats Jericho or put him on SD to feud with AJ starting on the SD after wm. But at least in NXT he will be booked strong at least for a while.

Fuck off NXT why should he go there?
It's the perfect way to re-establish himself within WWE. He's a guy who has it all, and I'm glad to see him back.

I might be wrong but I don't think either Mclntyre or Galloway is his real name.
His real name is Andrew Galloway.

Re: Drew McIntyre Confirms WWE Signing - Joins NXT Brand

As someone who's enjoyed the hell out of Drew's work these last few years I'm pretty disappointed to hear this, but I really shouldn't be surprised. Drew's made it clear that he wanted a second shot at WWE before he even left Impact, so it was only a matter of time.

Ah well, hopefully he gets the chance to succeed this time & him going back would be worth it.

I'm sad he's leaving and his amazing 3 year redemption tour has finally ended. Its been one hell of a ride and its the reason I started watching EVOLOVE and ICW. Drew made me and countless other fans of both companies. Which means his goal of making wrestling as a whole stronger worked.

But as you said, this is what he wants and has wanted presumably since he got sacked in 2014. One more chance to show Vince he wasn't wrong when he called him the Chosen One and gave him a chance to be a star. He's going to kill it this time I can feel it.
