Well all she ever has is squash matches against local jobbers, she debuted months ago and has yet to have a feud. Its kinda hard to get excited with how shes being used.
There's a lot to be critical of. You'd think the whole purpose of the performance center & NXT would be to help prepare people for being a WWE performer. They've literally done nothing with her except give her red eyes & a new name, and if anything she has less character depth now than she did as Athena.
There's way too much focus on the finisher too. Overexposure is a huge issue with WWE in general, and it sucks that such a cool move is rapidly becoming ordinary. She needs an alternative finisher, especially for squashing jobbers, as that's all she seems to do, and save the big one for moments when she needs it.
That said, I really enjoyed her match last night. Kimber's a solid worker so that should be no surprise. Even against jobbers her matches always seem more competative than Asuka matches. That's not too surprising but I'm also not sure if that's even a good thing - Are they trying to paint her as another unstoppable force, or just a girl that can beat jobbers in reasonably competative matches? Because the latter is hardly booking her strongly.
I know a lot of people don't like the dissonance between her presentation and character either. Although her character does seem to change (again) once she's actually wrestling. I can't believe it took them a year to get her on TV, and in all that time, they hadn't worked out even the basics of her character.
I still love her though, and hope everything comes together soon. And I can't wait to see her work some longer matches against more notable opponents. I'm still disapponted in how they booked that Billie Kay match. Kay should certainly have gone over in dirty fashion.
From the debut vignettes to the entrance, they present her like a female Undertaker. But then, we see her being buddies with the other women and acting like any other wrestler. After the entrance, there is no mystique or character. I mean hell, at least with Finn Balor, his Demon character is a separate entity.
I saw her first match and I was like "OH SHIT SHES KINDA COOL" then I saw her about 2 months later and she was still fighting no names and the match looked identical.... boring af... hope they expand her in the ring and give her a storyline, she could be epic
I'd like to see her actually booked in a program until i judge her, so far she's just being put in random matches to perform her finisher. That's not her that's the fault of the bookers.
I couldn't disagree more. Ember Moon is one of the few women in WWE/NXT that can have entertaining hard-hitting squash matches with anyone(watch her match with Mandy Rose) and make the most of the limited time and consistently deliver fun short matches.
I can understand people complaining about her gimmick being weird, but saying her matches are already boring is bullshit.
I like her despite the lack of direction right now. You can see that the talent is there, it's like they're just stalling with her up until the big T/O event in April.
Glad I'm not alone. It feels like they want me to think she's some kind of epic character (between the red contacts and the entrance theme) when in reality she's on the same level as all these other women. She's just kind of there. We'll see what the next year brings.
It's sad that WWE still doesn't realize in 2016 that you need more than victories and a cool finisher to be interesting. Say whatever you want about AJ Lee, I'm not even a fan of hers, but at least she was involved in storylines that made you care about her

Squash matches serve a slight purpose for people such as Braun and Nia because at least you have the belivability factor. Even with Asuka you can see the visciousness in her. It doesn't work for a girl like Ember. She needs to be in serious matches to truly get over.
Anyway Ember is just another case of a severely botched NXT womens division where you have:
Asuka
Ember
The rest of the girls
They've got to make Ember look legit but there isn't anyone aside from Asuka to make her look legit (Which isn't gonna happen). Bad stuff.
I really want to like her but she's female Balor right now and unless she improves drastically as a character and promo, I doubt that goodwill will last long.
She's getting the Asuka build and she'll be facing Asuka for the title at Takeover Orlando. The division is so thin she kind of has to waste her time with jobber folk for now, maybe face Billie or Peyton in San Antonio. I'm not that into her yet but I'm definitely looking forward to her program with Asuka already.
Not worried about her character so much. Her matches however need a little work, in that she wrestles something akin to a high flying/lucha style thus there's a lot of set up and cooperation. The trick is to make it not seem obvious and she hasn't perfected it yet, plus her opponents are still learning as well. But I like watching them get better from week to week...I posted something very similar to this earlier today somewhere...
I want to like her and believe she has potential but I need to see more personality. Asuka can speak Japanese and cut three word English promos and still convey more conviction than I have seen from Ember since day one combined.
Whatever subtle little nuance, timing, accuracy or anything really. I'm not saying they're good, I'm saying they're learning. What kind of standard are you trying to hold them to? If they have a bad showing one night does that mean it's time to give up?
Life is a learning experience from the cradle to the grave. However incremental or obscure it may seem to you.
EditThe Tempest - used quick reply and forgot to quote.
I'm also still kinda hung up on her name. It's grown on me a little - I was horrified when I first heard that was going to be her name though. Probably the first time where I hope Vince cuts off her last name if/when she moves up.
