"Eric Young has officially signed with WWE according to a report on the CBS Fantasy Football Podcast.
Host Jamey Eisenberg revealed that he recently met Young, who told him that he signed with WWE and will debut with NXT at some point over the next few weeks. Young last appeared on the May 4 episode of NXT by confronting the recently crowned NXT Champion Samoa Joe. He was defeated by submission."
Was that what the whole 'Sanity' vignette on Saturday was all about?
I can't say i'm overly excited by this though. His match with Joe was boring, and he only really thrives as a heel character, which he's unlikely to be.
That is quite the interesting theory. I didn't think of that. If you see the thread about that, even though I knew Eric Young was on NXT TV not long ago.
Wonder if they make him change his name. They already have Darren Young and Renee Young in WWE.
What is the rule on who has to change their names and who gets to keep their names? Rollins, Zayn(well he obviously had to), Owens, Ambrose, Bryan and Itami have new names but some reason Aries, Nakamura, Joe and Roode didn't have to.
The pattern seems to be that everybody from New Japan and TNA keeps their name, but everybody from a lesser Japanese promotion, or Indies gets their name changed. Why? They probably think that those wrestlers have more name recognition since New Japan is the #2 promotion in the world and TNA was on national television with Spike tv for 10 years. Personally, I would've only changed the ones that needed to be changed because they were bad wrestling names, so El Generico, Tyler Black and Prince Devitt, everybody else would've kept theirs. Unless there's another bad name I'm forgetting.
I know Triple H wanted to keep KENTA but Vince told him no.
He's a guy who is very versatile in the role you want him to play but he's not really great at anything. He's a fine addition but not something I'm overly hyped for.
I would change Eric Young's name if you can come up with a better gimmick for him. Otherwise keep it.
He's a good wrestler, a positive addition, not a Bobby Roode or an AJ Styles, or even an Austin Aries or Samoa Joe, he doesn't have the upside in the company that those guys have but. Good addition, I can see him bringing legitimacy to the Intercontinental title if they actually wanted to make the title credible they could do it with him.
Its funny thinking back in the past, you had WWE fans shit all on TNA when all these guys were on top, and now whether you like that they are being brought in or not, guys like Roode & Aries & Joe are carrying NXT, and the fans are loving it, and even AJ Styles included in that on the main roster. (But from an NXT pov, Roode especially is getting a great reaction, and he was the main guy that alot of TNA wrestling fans loved)
For me, Im just glad some of my favorite wrestlers are in the spotlight and they aren't getting stupid gimmicks they are being allowed to showcase themselves, and they aren't being buried like the WCW guys were when they came in. Which I never thought would happen. Imagine Booby Roode & AJ Styles as two of WWE's top main roster stars this time next year, I would love to see that.
Back on topic: He won't be a big star on the main roster I don't think, but I'm Happy to see Young on board.
I don't know about Young fitting with NXT. We have seen that for some former TNA talent that they can fit in (Joe, possibly Roode) and that there are others that necessarily don't (Aries).
I think bringing in the TNA guys is a great move for the WWE.
WWE loyalists won't like it, but the people that don't like it or complain about it, and I don't mean this to be negative at all, but those people are going to watch anyways.
Having these guys will give some wrestling fans that haven't really liked the WWE for awhile but liked these guys from TNA or ROH or whereever a reason to watch, and its a smart business move especially if they put them all on Smackdown to start. (Some of the ones that are the better wrestlers)
But I think what they should do is give each of them a fair shot in NXT, and the ones that don't should just move right up to the main roster, they've done all the live TV, big live events exc, they don't need to learn anything.
One of the best heels I can remember in a while so they should keep it that way. A real World class maniac who makes the Lunatic fringe look like a choir boy.
In reality, getting people to pay to watch their tapings is something TNA guys didn't do as the Impact Zone papered the whole crowd. FSU charges for tickets. TNA was getting 400-500 people on tours, same with ROH to recently when they have been getting high hundreds to a thousand, whereas NXT is selling out convention centers. BFG has never even scrateched half of the attendance of Takeover London, let alone a third of Takeover Brooklyn. So yeah they weren't drawing flies in their old stomping grounds. They aren't AJ Styles selling out arenas in Japan as the top act for 11,000 paying customers. IT just isn't true to paint Joe, Roode, Aries, Young in that light at all which is why they have to prove themselves in NXT regardless of them not needing to "learn" things.
The fact is Joe, Aries, and Roode accomplished more in that Takeover as the main acts on a card than their whole ROH/TNA run. They proved more about themselves not as "wrestlers" but as talents and stars. Guys like Danielson, Storm, etc all have to prove that because they aren't Styles and didn't bet on themselves like Styles did when he proved himself in JApan.
Its ironic you start the point with "in reality" and then your point is incorrect
TNA went on the road live, they went on the road and taped shows, they've done that, TNA has done that before when they were stronger, they have been there, everything WWE does TNA has done or tried to do at some point, as far as things guys might not be used to.
You obviously haven't been paying attention to TNA.

Your just reaching for some negative thing to say about these guys, you just can't give them credit fair and unbiased credit because of a dislike for TNA.
TNA at one point was a very strong #2, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Austin Aries, and Bobby Roode were among the main driving forces of the company that allowed them to get to that point, they were the ones drawing the interest to the company. I can vividly remember times for each if you are going to continue to fight this point & need to me bring them up.

This comment leads me to believe you are a WWE loyalist. That really has no knowledge of TNA or the wrestlers.
Bobby Roode & James Storm as Beer money generated much more interest than this.
Samoe Joe had more attention in 06 when Kurt Angle debuted and went against him, and he had more attention around him before that when he debuted undefeated and went on that streak.
Austin Aries was one of the wrestlers of the year in 2012. So get out of here with that crap.
Theres no way you haven't been living in the WWE bubble if thats the way you really feel.
If this is true then that's great! EY is a tremendous talent and really shines with his comedy character.
I won't lie and say I ever enjoyed "serious" EY but comedy EY is amazing.
