Well, this is shocking. I mean, you have Balor reign that long and lose it at a house show? Seriously? I mean, why didn’t he just lose it in Dallas. If this is the case and Joe truly is champion, then I’m guessing this was a Vince thing and they told them to get the belt off Balor immediately so Balor can leave.
Either this was planned and makes it a truly bizarre decision to do it at an untelevised house show. Or they've called a quick audible in the ring and made a huge decision. There's no way they quickly got Triple H on the phone in that time and got his permission.
I'm all for unpredictability at live events but Finn was the longest reigning nxt champion. The ending of that reign should have happened at a big show, not some live event.
Congrats to Samoa Joe. I enjoyed Balor's reign, his matches were great for me although his build ups to them weren't.
God knows why they decided to pull this off on a house show instead of on NXT Dallas. Maybe Vince told HHH he wants Balor up on the main roster now, maybe its to boost house shows to show anything can happen. Maybe Balor is carrying a injury that needs resting up. It does feel strange that it happened on a house show.
I think it has a lot to do with the whole Anderson/Gallows thing, maybe as the leader or as another member of WWE's Bullet Club.
Them wanting to call Finn up doesn't explain why they did this at a house show. Plenty of people have gone up to the main roster with NXT championships.
It's gotten to the point that you can no longer ignore that someone is the NXT champion if they're on RAW. Back when Seth debuted, they didn't have him with the belt or acknowledge it, same with Big E, who had nearly all his title reign while on the main roster.
Owens debuted with the belt on RAW. His title even played into his feud with Cena. The NXT name is much bigger now than it was in 2012/2013 with Seth and Big E.
So if they don't want Finn to involve the title when he debuts, he needs to have dropped the title.
Another difference is that people like Seth and Owens were called up unexpectedly and suddenly. NXT doesn't control when people are called up, Vince does, which means they can get called up when they're in the middle of a story.
But Finn's call-up, assuming it's for the Balor Club, has obviously been in the works for a while now. So they're preparing in advance.
Balor is crap with the backstage interviews. That I can understand.
But has it been that bad? I agree that his reign has been inferior to Owens, Neville etc but isn't that creative's fault? They've not really given him a big angle from what I can remember.
He's just crap all round. Nowhere near good on the mic, nowhere near as good as his 3 predecessors and many peers in the ring, pushed as the face of NXT, etc.
He might not have been as bad as the Ascension overall but we had to endure more of Balor than the Ascension both on the mic and in the ring, the Ascension were never pushed as something they weren't (okay, maybe they were, but only because the division was shit then), and will probably have to endure more in the future while Ascension crumble on the main roster.
So bummed me and my wrestling buddies (Who all adore NXT) weren't able to make it to this for so many different unrelated reasons.. We had such a blast at the Albany event a few months back, and this was WAY closer to our home state of NH.
