With the arrival of a former TNA star(still have to wait right?) can we expect NXT to mention TNA? With other talent they mention their background and history in the business. Will they do the same and bring up TNA?
They still haven't mentioned TNA with Joe, who was a much bigger star than Storm, so why would they do it now? There's no reason to. All they have to say is Nashville native blah blah, 15 year wrestling background blah blah, came to make a name for himself in NXT, etc.
Why are wrestling fans so desperate for WWE to acknowledge other feds? It does nothing for WWE or the product and potentially draws eyes away and to alternative products: "Rollins, Bryan and Cesaro all came from ROH? Man, I need to check them out". Why would any business do such a thing? WWE doesn't stand for World Wrestling Enthusiasts, it's not a dirt sheet or a fucking wrestling tumblr, it's a business and last I checked businesses don't advertise for their competitors.
I just thought it was cool that on WWE.com they acknowledged him as a former heavyweight champion. At least they gave TNA that credit for their title meaning something. At least back when Storm held it the company was still pretty damn good.
You are right. That's as good of a recognition that TNA will get and Storm deserves that mention as champion, so the fans who don't know him can respect that he is a talent of that caliber.
They'll mention TNA, just not by name. James Storm was and still is associated with TNA when people first see him so it would be disrespectful not to acknowledge his work there.
They also mentioned Sting was a 2 time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, one of those was in WCW but one was in TNA. I swear they also mentioned the IWGP tag championships the Dudleys had when NJPW had a working agreement with TNA.
They should just mention TNA already. Just do it already. Like pulling off a band-aid. Once they do it, it won't be so bad anymore. I'm tired of the awkward tension between the two companies. You guys remember when Lowki metioned TNA? That went well... Samoa Joe and James Storm arguably were made stars in TNA. The fact that they accept that these guys were stars yet don't like to mention the place where they became household names is screwed up. Sting spent the majority of his career in TNA. They don't even have to say TNA just say Impact or something.
It's their choice though. If they really feel like TNA can be competition for them they won't mention them. Why would they give them free publicity? It's pretty smart. If WWE even mentioned TNA you know TNA would get a ratings spike.
One of the functions of NXT is to put some distance between the Indy fed a wrestler came from and their appearance on main roster. So don't expect much mention of tna.
Tna should not be craving wwe namechecks either
Not for Storm but Sting just mentioned TNA in his new Documentary. The 30 minute preview they had on the network was pretty interesting. He mentioned TNA by name. There's a thread about it in the TNA section.
