I agree with Foley. Corbin continues to impress at Live Specials, yet anytime he's on the screen, you've still got the same drones saying "HEEEZ GREEEEN, HE CAN'T WRASSLE!" despite showing he's fully capable of having great performances.
Sounds familiar. Of course Gable was the standout last night, but Corbin more than did his part and deserves his share of the credit. I loved the fast paced matchup and how he was able to show his versatility.
I'm just happy the squash matches are over. Looking forward to see what Corbin can do in regular feuds. Very happy he has actually embraced the boos instead of ignoring them like a puss. I expect to see him get a LONG NXT title reign in the future.
Still waiting for Graves to become his manager though :side:
He's missing that bit of oomph I get from Roman Reigns big matches, but when he's wrestling people like Samoa Joe, Chad Gable, Jason Jordan..and I guess Finn Balor, something has to be forced out of Corbin.
I did enjoy the fight between Joe and Corbin but it felt like a slower version of Big Show vs. Roman Reigns with less personality.
I'm not a hater of Corbin, but I often compare to hard-hitters like Reigns that very often put out 4-star big feel fights at PPVs so he's got that to follow.
I can see where you're coming from. Reigns IS better than Corbin, but that's because he has more experience in those big matches. My point is that Corbin is still capable of churning out great performances and he's not garbage like a lot of people in this section will have you believe. He's got the motions down nicely, but he does need to bring his own personal flair, swagger, and intensity. I'd like to see more mannerisms in his matches.
Corbin did well, even though the wrong team one. He's not nearly as crappy as some would have you believe. I don't know about his future, but he has proven that he belongs.
Ironically, OP, you're a huge fan of Reigns. Reigns is often who I COMPARE him to to find flaws in! I understand Corbin should one day be NXT champ, but again uh...
I'm looking for that feel I got during Reigns vs. Orton at SummerSlam 2014, Reigns vs. Lesnar at Mania and Reigns vs. Show at Extreme Rules. Give me that and I'll be on board. That's what has me sold on Reigns vs. Bray in the cell at the PPV! Hell, his Payback 2014 match with Evolution was such...beauty.
I even like that he's able to be scientific against CM Punk on old school raw, Bryan at Fastlane of this year and many matches with Rusev on Smackdown.
For what they ask of him and what he needs to do given all of his other intangibles, the ring work is fine. His last performances in Brooklyn and last night are a testament to that.
But still, the only thing holding him back for me is his look. He's billed and booked like a monster. But the only thing "monster" about him is his height. He still has that skinny fat look to him. That does hold me back from completely investing in him.
Meh. That's how I feel about Baron Corbin. I'm not excitedly looking at the meter for every minute improvement he's making at a snail's pace. He's getting better so there's that. :draper2

So has Dana and Corbin improving been enough to get people to stop burying development talent right away? Hell, even Mojo Rawley is better now that his offense isn't ass based.
I think it's ridiculous that anyone who comes in as a super model or a big guy has to work twice as hard to gain acceptance than even an irrelevant jobber from the indies(see Blue Pants).
Yeah, he's looked a lot better lately. Think the pairing with Rhyno has really helped him. They should stay together as a tag team and fight for the tag titles down the road.
Finally SOMEBODY gives him credit instead of dragging him through the mud like a lot of fans & actually tries to be a source of encouragement unlike someone...*ahem* Steve Austin *ahem*
Baron has been delivering, especially with his heel character tweak. Glad he's finally earning respect now that he's doing more than squash matches. He was in MOTN for me. A lot of that has to do with how well Jordan/Gable mixed with him but he played his part in it.
I can agree that he has been improving and just needs the personality factor besides the Lone Wolf gimmick. Baron can be imposing, sooner than later he'll be able to branch out from more than he is now.
I could not enjoy the match last night, due to the salt of JJ and Gable losing. But as much as I hate to admit it, that match was amazing and Baron played a part it in.
Not normally a fan of his, but i think Jordan and Gable did a great job with him last night, made him look good in there (i think Balor and Joe could have done a bit more though), he's definitely getting better, he should stick around Rhyno more, that's a guy who knows how to work a powerhouse gimmick, hopefully he's been giving him some advice.
@Legit BOSS Am I being a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist when I think indy fans are more critical of and less likely to acknowledge the abilities of people with "da look" because they don't want them to be more successful than the indy darlings? It just seems like when their guys don't perform there's a billion excuses and a ton of leeway given that inexperienced models and football players don't get a fraction of. And when the PC kids do well it's always "they got carried" and "how come they didn't do it their other matches" as if they're expected to do as well with other inexperienced wrestlers.
No, you're 100% correct. Some people are bitter because those with the look get pushed harder, so they try to tear them down at every turn. Meanwhile, every excuse in the world was made for Hideo's mediocrity, despite NXT giving almost unlimited freedom to everyone, aside from straight up banned moves.
They should develop Corbin like Reigns. Instead of short squashes, make him the big guy in a tag team, with a small technical guy. Corbin gets experience, but doesn't need to be in the ring the whole match until he's ready
Right now, I see him a lot like Batista back in 2002. He's a big guy that can be a star, but he needs to continue working with the right people (on and off screen). If someone like Barry Windham could mentor him, he'd be set imo.
I like him but he is a bit boring. And that belly button...
