- It appears WWE NXT will be invading New York City during SummerSlam weekend this August, as was speculated a few months back. Triple H tweeted the teaser seen below today.
SummerSlam takes place on August 23rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. We'll keep you updated on details regarding NXT's debut in NYC. Triple H wrote:
There's a great chance it will be better. They could easily break their attendance record with the fanbase available form NYC. I dont know how large of a venue they want to book, but I'm sure they would draw huge.
- Yesterday we posted that Triple H teased a WWE NXT live event for SummerSlam weekend in New York City. One idea discussed was a live WWE Network special with the NXT brand to be held the night before SummerSlam in Brooklyn. If they go this route, the special would go up against Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling in the same area.
Triple H announced today on Twitter that NXT will make its New York City debut on Saturday August 22, 2015 at the Barclays Center.
Tickets go on sale Saturday July 18th.
With the announcement of this show, WWE will be running three nights in a row at the Barclays Center with SummerSlam on the 23rd and Raw on the 24th.
probably a risk playing a building this large especially with a major wrestling event going on in the same area (which would attract same type of fanbase)
i suppose if wwe manage to attract a half-house circa 5-6,000 they will be delighted as 4,000 is the nxt attendance record and that was a big jump from their previous record.
I doubt you will get 18k for NXT. That is quite a big jump compared to other venues they been in. Its not like you will see Zayn, Neville, or Itami wrestle. Owens might not be there unless he loses the NXT title and wants a rematch. Charlotte might be called up to the main roster by then and Bayley and Becky are injured. The draws right now is Balor, Joe, Enzo & Cass, and Sasha. Its not bad but its not great either.
13,500 is the maximum seating capacity for wwe televised events in the barclays once you take into account tron/entranceway
even with that i would expect top tier to be closed off reducing capacity to around 7,000 which if they fill that or get close to it would be a massive win for the brand at this early stage.
according to their calendar they have a houseshow set for white plains that same night but its a small venue (4,400 seats) so they could easily cancel it as they have done with the nxt takeover special on august 12th it would seem or send a skeleton crew to white plains that night while adding neville, cesaro, even cena and rollins to the nxt special in brooklyn
So is this replacing the August 12th Takeover that was in the list of live tapings which was leaked a little while ago?
Seems pointless to have a 'normal' Takeover on the 12th and then have the biggest NXT show of all time, 10 days later.
As mentioned before it's a shame that Zayn and Itami are injured. Even if Zayn was on the main roster by now, it still would have been right to include him (as I hope they include Neville) He's one of the guys that made NXT what it is today.
I wonder if they'll bring in some ex-NXT talent right from the beginning, seeing as it's such a huge show and the only main eventers you have are Balor, Owens and Joe atm.
Bring in Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins, Paige, Big E, would be very cool to see talents from the Beginning of NXT along with the NXT of today.
edit: I bet WWE got the idea to do this after that MASSIVE house show for NXT that they did on Wrestlemania weekend, which Vince attended.
