I didn't see any threads about this and I thought it deserved some attention.
Neville's promo to open NXT on the 18th was his best so far. I normally don't like his promos. It has nothing to do with his accent (before anyone complains). I just always thought he was below average on the mic.
But this last one was...just... WOW. The emotion he showed when Kevin Owens came out and the "Shame on you, man!" was just perfect. He went from being a tweener to a full-on face with that promo. That turned out to be important seeing as he was going against the Indie Darling Kevin Owens/Steen in front of a smarky crowd..
I feel if Neville didn't give such a great face promo congratulating Sami Zayn and calling out Kevin Owens for his actions, the crowd would have given such a mixed reaction for the main event, that it wouldn't have been as entertaining as it turned out to be.
TLDR: Neville's promo was awesome and deserves some recognition for it.
It's great to see him find a passion for the mic work.
The guy is a machine with an incredible work ethic, so I'm not surprised to see him eventually evolve in aspects other than the wrestling. I've always felt that if he translated some of the work that he puts into perfecting his wrestling and athleticism into creating more of a character, there's nothing that can stop him.
He has continually shown that he's not content with just being another spotty high-flier who has a cool finisher. The NXT fanbase are certainly starting to buy into him.
It was good when he got pissed at Owens, the first part of the promo was absolutely dreadful once again though and he should be kept as far away from the mic as possible, it's not as though he needs quality mic work to sell himself to an audience.
I don't think he's hopeless on the mic, they should just play to his strengths. Neville is not good at monologues or explaining himself to an audience but he's passable when he can vent and exchange lines with another person.
I felt the segment could've been booked better. Don't make a guy who has a weird accent explain to the audience what happened to Sami Zayn with cheesy lines (after Neville behaved like a prick throughout the match), instead they should've had Kevin Owens come out and explain himself, gloat at the punishment he inflicted, and then have Neville interrupt him for a babyface pop.
Yeah, he really improved except for the " Shame on you, Man ", I thought it sounded ridiculous but it was a good promo, not awesome but it's a huge improvment from what he did before
I'm of the opinion that Neville performed better than Owens in that segment, actually. See, the good thing about Neville is that his character, prior to WWE, was his wrestling, so he has the opportunity to cultivate whatever persona.
Meanwhile, Owens wants to go psycho Steen mode, but you can tell he's holding back from that at least at this point and it comes through negatively in his work. It's interesting, though.
Adrian Neville being the red-headed stepchild of the NXT Five in the eyes of most fans saddens me at times.
I liked it because people were ready to boo him (over Zayn) and he managed to turn it around to remain face.
I didn't like him hammering the "shameful" part. Maybe I did, but it was obvious KO didn't give a fuck. Perhaps that made it better (making KO a good heel), but it felt more like bullshit considering Neville pulled some 'shameful' bullshit twice in a row in title matches.
I do think this was his best promo ever done (aside from the "we all know you can't win the big one" liner).
No they weren't. They were chanting "thank you Neville" even before he started talking.
It was an ok promo, nothing more. If I was in charge of Raw I'd give him as little promo time as possible because even at his best he's still only passable and his promo skills are not up to par with the rest of his abilities. Talking is not something he needs to do to get over but it's undeniable he's been getting better at it so good for him.
If you have the chance to polish yourself by actually talking :draper2
I have nothing against Neville's promos (though British accents turn me off a bit) and the more mic time he gets (by saying something meaningful, not rubbish like "viper->worm"), the better he will get. He doesn't need to be masterful speaker by any means, his in-ring work does the talking, but been given such opportunities is great for his overall growth. And the more he sticks to emotional promos, the better. Also, as mentioned, "rants" might be his best talking side.
Honestly, I agree with the person who said he preformed better than Owens. This is interesting because Adrian Nevile is showing that he is more than just a generic high flyer. I predict he will ascend farther than most people think.
I thought he sounded pretty good considering hes probably wary that his accent is sometimes difficult to understand.
Like somebody in a previous thread said though, i dont think his mic skills have to be 100% when his offence is full of standout moves
Picked up after Owens came out and they exchanged lines. Neville shouldn't be asked to do monologues. I agree with whoever said Owens should have come out first and gloat about the attack, not giving a fuck and get interrupted by Neville.
I loved the "Shame on you" part. Neville made the emotion come across convincingly.
Very well delivered. He seems close to a comfort zone.
