I can see how people will label this a novelty gimmick with a short life span, but you could say that with a lot of gimmicks that have gotten over. I think the goal for a lot of these NXT guys, especially a guy like Kruger, is to get noticed. In FCW, he played your typical one dimensional heel who happened to be from South Africa. The hunter gimmick was okay, but that would have run it's course in no time and he would be lost in the shuffle. The concept for Adam Rose is quite smart. It's like taking the Funkasaurus gimmick and making it more adult-friendly. This change in gimmick alone has hot-shotted him to the top of the pack for main roster debuts. This is the type of thing that will have an immediate positive reaction with any live RAW crowd. I also think this character is probably a lot closer to his own personality and more comfortable for him to play anyway.
Comparing this to Fandango is a bit unfair since he debuted as a heel. Once they realize his "weird" gimmick is what makes him stand out, it will give his character more longevity. The ballroom dancing gimmick was a vessel to get him on TV since Johnny Curtis had no real identity. With that identity and the "Let's get weird" persona, I think there's a winning gimmick.
