Default Alexander Rusev

За всеки един от NXT, който се изправи срещу нас..
ЩЕ УСЕТИ ГНЕВЪТ НА АЛЕКСАНДЪР РУСЕВ!!!

I saw the above slogan on the signature of "redwood original" in another thread and the Bulgarian language caught my eye immediately.

(It translates roughly to: "For each one from the NXT who stood against us, You will feel the wrath of ALEXANDER RUSEV!!!")

I'm as ignorant of what is going on in the present day WWE as most of our forum members are of what went on back in the days of the all-powerful NWA and early WWWF.

What is the deal with the NXT and this Rusev??? Is he a real Bulgarian or is that his kayfabe country of origin??? Except for Ivan Putski (who is really from Poland), all of these "Russian" and "Slavic" wrestlers from the past three decades are from Anytown, U.S.A., not Novosibirsk or Volgograd!!!

Mike

He is Bulgarian, and yeah he is a brute. He debuted a few months back on NXT and has been destroying everybody. Real impressive.

I don't know much aside from kayfabe. Dude's a beast though, limited like most big men, but at least he's rocking a decent gimmick.

He's an authentic Bulgarian. Wikipedia has a nice bio about him. Also has a smokin' hot Russian manager. I've only seen them fairly recently and have only heard them speaking Russian so far.

Thanks to all for the input! Русев sounds like a guy I could cheer for. Does NXT have anyplace I can watch videos or streaming of his matches??? (I got rid of the crooks at"COMCAST" about two years ago and found out that I can live very well without television!)

Bulgaria was always strong in weightlifting and amateur wrestling. It was only a matter of time before a real Bulgarian made it into the ranks of the WWE!

I'm maybe one of the bigger Rusev marks. Probably the biggest non Bulgarian one if the guy whose signature intrigued you.

He's an absolute monster, former power lifter, apparently considered for the 2012 Bulgarian powerlifting Olympics team!
He isn't the best in the ring but he has great potential. I'm not sure about your knowledge of wrestling in the last 20 years, Batko/Mike, but he was trained by a famous member of the Anoa'i family known as Rikishi, and in-ring is very similar to another member of the family, the late Umaga. That means he can run absolutely rampart in the ring if called up to the main roster.

It depends on where you live on how you can watch NXT. To watch it legally you can watch it on Hulu or WWE.com and maybe even television - there are multiple illegal places though

NXT isn't quite like Raw where the same guys show up every week though. The guys that show on the weekly televising change. Sometimes a person isn't on for a week, maybe two weeks, or maybe is on two weeks in a row!

777 mentioned how he is limited like most big men, however Rusev is one of those super agile big guys, so I don't think grouping him with the 'normal' big men is fair.

Dude is a tank and he moves like he's been shot outta a cannon, it's outrageous how agile he is and the velocity he generates is very reminiscent of Umaga so there's more to him than just being some hulking big guy, however, I can imagine the Raw crowd will assume that he is simply another big guy who'll be jammed down our throats, but, I can't blame them if they do adopt this mind-set because that's what I thought at first until he whipped out a frickin' spinning heel kick followed by a trip to the top rope during his match against Ziggler.

Thanks for all the info! Now that you mentioned that Rikishi trained him, I see the similarity in his fighting style and general demeanor with that of the Samoan guys.

Just as an FYI, my serious wrestling fan days were from about 1959 to 1965 and from 1999 to 2005. So, I am familiar with Rikishi and Umaga, aka Fatu. I've seen them fight on TV and in person here in Minneapolis/St. Paul in WWF shows. However, I wasn't aware that Fatu was dead. (I have some major gaps in my knowledge. A combination of old age, mad cow disease, and not following things for long periods of time! )

It's good to see some of our (real) Slavic guys make good in the WWE! Thanks again for taking the time to impart all that information!

- Mike

P.S. Batko/Батько means "father" in Ukrainian.

P.P.S. Speaking of Rikishi and Samoans, I saw the Rock's grandpa, Prince Maivia, fight a number of times on TV. One picture that sticks in my mind from 50 years ago was Buddy Rogers hitting Maivia on the head with a plank of wood outside the ring with Maivia shaking it off and coming at him.

If you're in the US, you can watch it on Hulu (go to hulu.com and search for NXT). If you're outside the US, try going on a site like dailymotion.com and search for episodes there. His best match so far is definitely the one with Ziggler, his others have mostly been squashes…the Ziggler match is from the 8/22 episode - in fact a quick google search led to this link:
