I really don't think you need to keep the Ascension. You can merely have Connor O'Brien remain with the gimmick despite not having the tag team partner. Debut him at the Royal Rumble, and have him feud with Kane. Possibly eliminating Kane from the match itself. Then Connor O'Brien eliminates himself to continue fighting with Kane. I feel like Kane is the perfect character that O'Brien could really go over with a character derived from his Ascension gimmick.

Well if he's a vampire have him debut in the royal rumble like above suggested - the lights go off everyone thinks it's taker but it's Conner and he grabs onto one of the wrestlers...flashes into the dark again and him and one of the wrestlers (who will be his partner) disappear from the ring
