Nashville police are confirming reports that former Titans and Ravens QB Steve McNair has been killed.
McNair, 36, and a female were found shot to death, spokesman Don Aaron told reporters this afternoon.
No one is yet in custody and Aaron said he could not give details on what time the victims died.
Titans owner Bud Adams released the following statement:
"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."
McNair retired in April 2008 after a 13-year career. He played his first two seasons with the Houston Oilers, then moved with the team to Tennessee, where he played until 2005. He finished his career with two seasons in Baltimore.
McNair, the third overall pick in 1995, led the Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV.
Floyd Reese, the former Titans general manager who's now an executive in New England, released this statement:
"I am deeply saddened to learn of today’s tragic news regarding the death of Steve McNair. He was a player who I admired a great deal. He was a tremendous leader and an absolute warrior. He felt like it was his responsibility to lead by working hard every day, no matter what. I don’t think there was a player who played with him or against him that didn’t look up to him and respect him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, his friends and the many teammates who loved and admired him."
Being brutally honest, he was not found killed, if the reports of a murder-suicide are to be believed, he killed a women, and then himself.
i hope not, but i do think there is more to this than what's been said, this just reminds me a lot of when benoit died, hopefully not though. i was always a fan of steve, that superbowl vs. the rams was one of my favorites, R.I.P Steve "Air" McNair.
R.I.P. He is one of my favorite Quarterbacks of all time and he was a class act off of the field. His former teammate for ten years Derrick Mason was almost crying on ESPNEWS today. It would be horrible for it to turn out to be a Murder-Suicide.
I'm not going to comment on the crime until more details come out from this story. Just like others have said, you hope it's not a Murder-Suicide but we don't know right now. But it's a sad situation either way.
