Re: Rock/Metal Discussion Thread

Got any preferences to be said so some suggestions can be pitched towards those directions or you speaking full blown towards anything? b/c I know I can plug the last three Avantasia albums and feel confident. Not to mention what I've been gushing about with Crusade in this thread so far - Between the Buried & Me. Among others of course, but I jump towards the personal favorites I hold in that high regard.

Pretty much anything. Especially Scandinavian music (Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Hard Rock) type of stuff.

I accept Hayley Williams rep.

Since 2002? Hmmm let's think.

Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II
Between the Buried and Me - The Silent Circus
Laura Stevenson - Wheel
Laura Stevenson - Sit Resist
The National - Boxer
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Agalloch - The Mantle
Mew - Frengers
mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister
The Dear Hunter - Act II: The Meaning of, & All Things Regarding Ms. Leading
Defeater - Lost Ground

Those are my personal 5/5 albums so I'd say those for sure. Some of those aren't going to be albums you will necessarily click with on first listen though.

Re: Rock/Metal Discussion Thread

If open to Power Metal than I'm sticking with the Avantasia plug. Their first album falls below criteria, however their second - The Metal Opera Part II - and the rest follow suit. In consideration to which album to pick for sole "award" of the question is a bit tough. The general market is open for you to pick, if haven't already been a fan prior to this. Considering how you enjoy the fem vocalist like myself, you should be open to some of the tracks that have them in the mix. Such as:

What Kind of Love ~ from The Scarecrow
Symphony of Life ~ from Angel of Babylon
Spectres ~ from The Mystery of Time

however Mystery of Time is a tad skippable in comparison to the rest of the albums in the fold.

Some others along the lines:

Edguy ~ Hellfire Club, Rocket Ride, Tinnitus Sanctus
Children of Bodom ~ Follow the Reaper & Hate Crew Deathroll
Soilwork ~ Figure Number Five, Natural Born Chaos, & Stabbing the Drama
HammerFall ~ Crimson Thunder
Lamb of God ~ Ashes of the Wake
Avenged Sevenfold ~ Waking the Fallen
Between the Buried & Me ~ The Great Misdirect (recs given by Crusade are top notch too)
Dethklok ~ The Dethalbum

Last three are all American, but that shouldn't matter despite preferences given. BTBAM is progressive metal, A7X is metalcore, & LOG is straight up Metal at its near finest. Again, you may be familiar with all of this but throwing out suggestions either way. Some of my favorites mentioned on a whim here.

Forgot Killswitch. D'oh. But the real crime was myself leaving off both Amaranthe albums. It's right up the criteria for what he seems to be into, tbf.

specifically scandinavian, fairly recent and rocking:

Ghost - Opus Eponymous
In Solitude -The world, the flesh, the devil as well as new album Sister which just came out
Witchcraft- Witchcraft & The Alchemist or any of the albums really, they haven't made a bad one to my ears
Portrait - Portrait
The Devils Blood - Time of No Time Evermore

or you could just cut out the middleman and go straight to King Diamond/Merciful Fate, most of the bands I mentioned are throwbacks to old styles but done really well. Some of the very best metal of the 80s and 90s came out of scandinavia (Candlemass, Bathory, Norwegian black metal, Swedish death metal etc)so dont limit yourself to just recent stuff.

Slip of the mind. That is a solid reason as to why I hate compiling lists.
