I wonder who I'll name here. Tis a grand mystery when it comes to female led vocalist in bands that I worship...

Anette needs love from Nightwish. Imaginaerum was a flawless album. Can easily rival Once, which was the best work while Tarja was with the band.

Amaranthe def needs a plug in this thread. Friggin brilliant they are.

Epica. Simone Simons; good fucking lord.

Battlelore's female singer has a great voice and offers the same sort of dynamic that Amaranthe does. Only more in the "celtic" epic metal sense.

Real treat here are the hidden greats like Amanda Sommerville & Cloudy Yang. Work with Avantasia are a revelation. Voices are stellar. Symphony of Life track with Yang is godly.

Amaranth was decent enough though I haven't listened to much Nightwish since Annette took over. But whenever I hear Tarja singing "Sleeping Sun", I know that no other vocalist Nightwish recruits will be as good.

Honestly, Annette isn't a bad singer. I just think her vocal style doesn't gel well with Nightwish's music. Tarja was the perfect match.

Don't agree at all that Anette didn't fit the Nightwish sound. Not a single bit. The music they produced on the last two albums were completely different and fused in the new singer with that style. It was perfection. Songs like Scaretale weren't happening with Tarja around.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Karen O all day.

Maybe Anette fits the band's new style, but Tarja was just perfect and gave Nightwish that amazing Symphonic Power Metal sound. I still prefer Tarja over Anette. And Marco has shown some great vocals after he took over when Anette left.

Does it have to be all bands?

Laura Stevenson:- My absolute favourite female vocalist. Her band is probably my second favourite band behind Between the Buried and Me. Their two releases are some of the best music I've ever heard. Laura has truly a powerful and emotive voice which really makes you feel. Also has written some of the best lyrics I've ever read.

Julia Holter:- Best discovery of the year for me. Makes experimental pop with a touch of ambient. Makes such unique and atmospheric music. She has some really strange genius to her music. Utterly wonderful. Her new album Loud City Song is my second favourite album of the year behind Laura Stevenson's Wheel.

CHVRCHES:- Anyone who knows my avatar knew I'd put this. The lead singer Lauren Mayberry has one of the most gorgeous singing tone's I've ever heard. Amazing vocalist. The band is also fantastic producing an extremely addictive synthpop sound which is accessible and catchy but never once dragging into the generic mediocrity's of 98% of today's pop music. They've managed to balance accessibility whilst keeping themselves an identity which makes them stand out and make's them different. Fantastic songwriting overall too in their debut album.

Other favourite female musicians:-

Anneke Van Giersbergen:- Has one of the most powerful and emotional female vocals I've ever heard much like Laura Stevenson. I'm not too into her music but everything she's collaborated with Devin Townsend has turned into literal gold as Devin's albums Addicted and Epicloud have shown. Have also had the pleasure of hearing this woman sing live and it is utterly breathtaking to say the least.

Ashley Ellylon:- The keyboardist of the weird enigma known as ORBS. Insanely talented and underrated. Was unfortunately associated with some dreaful bands like Cradle of Filth and Abigail Williams (Okay AW aren't dreadful but they are mediocre for sure) but she's been able show off her songwriting talent and playing ability on ORBS debut album. ORBS sophomore comes out hopefully by the end of this year and I cannot wait.

Lindsey Stirling:- Her new album is marred by some generic songwriting but you cannot deny the talent of this violinist. Has played some breathtaking covers such as the one's of Lord of the Rings and Skyrim which really showcase how gifted she is. She has the potential to release some incredible material in the future as long as she decides to keep her identity and not let her label record dictate to her what she should write.

I think the emphasis was more on the rock/metal part than 'bands' crusade, if we're just listing favorite female musicians then Id have to amend my list considerably. Some good stuff there though.
