Siamese Dream turned 20 today

No album is ingrained in my psyche like Siamese Dream. I grew up to this album. I mended my broken heart to this album. I lost my innocence to this album. Few albums can claim there is not a filler song on the whole album. Say what you will about the albums Smashing Pumpkins released after this is a fucking masterpiece. During a period when everyone was trying to compare them to the Seattle bands SP took Sabbath, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Cheap Trick and Zeppelin and stuck them in a blender. To this day I probably listen to this album front to back more than any. I can't think of 5 songs I like more than Spaceboy. I can't think of 5 videos I like more than Today. I can't think of 5 riffs I like more than Silverfuck. I can't think of 5 better alternative rock songs than Cherub Rock, I can't think of five more brutally honest songs than Disarm or Soma and I sure as hell can't think of five songwriters I like more than Billy Corgan. Geek USA rocks, Rocket rocks, Luna is incredibly beautiful and Mayonaise is one of the most underrated songs of the 90s. One of my favorite album covers as well.

I will shut up. Good article below. Who else loves this album?

Wow, 20 years huh? It is a great album. Personally, I love Machina and Adore much more than Siamese Dream, but then again, I didn't get into them until 5 years ago.

Re: Siamese Dream turned 20 today

SP makes my all time top 5 so I love those albums as well. People either love or hate Adore. Billy is a genius and knows a shit ton about wrestling. I saw them twice on the Mellon Collie tour in HS and once 3 years ago at a place that holds like 400 people a couple years ago and it was insane.

Re: Siamese Dream turned 20 today

My favorite album.

Is an important record in my life, but apart from that, the album in itself is a masterpiece. I'm still think that the production value of the disc is incredible. Yes, it tries to mirror the sound of Loveless but in that search, they found their own sound, you can hear the barrier of guitars in the album and still it sound different than Loveless and than anything released in that moment, specially thanks to the abillity of billy in the lyrics department and the amount of influence he was using for the album. Someone need to give his props to Jimmy, often overlooked, the guy is machine.

Soma is one of the better songs i'm heard in my life

Re: Siamese Dream turned 20 today

Yeah Siamese Dream is one of the best albums of the 90s. It's up there with epic shit like Odelay, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and Nevermind.

Mayonnaise and Rocket for life. I love the whole album though. I don't really like other Smashing Pumpkins' stuff (except for 1979 holy shit that song is great), but Siamese Dream will never get old.

Re: Siamese Dream turned 20 today

It's a great album indeed. So many great songs such as Cherub Rock, Today, and Disarm with some underrated gems such as Quiet, Hummer, and Spaceboy. Geek USA remains one of my all time favorite Pumpkins song due to Jimmy Chamberlain going HAM on the drums and Billy Corgan's awesome solo. It is im my opinion one of the greatest album of the 90's along with Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Ten, and In Utero.

One of those crucial records you hear at 13, and it changes your taste for things instantly.

Ainsi sera, groigne qui groigne.
