Re: Covers Better Than The Original

I definitely like GnR's Live and Let Die better, it was a lot heavier and after hearing it, Paul's version just seems too light for my taste. As for Knockin' on Heaven's Door, I think they're equal. I like both Dylan and GNR's version, they're both completely different. Not a huge fan of Eric Clapon's version. Love the guitar in the song but overall not digging it that much. Also, Manson's Sweet Dreams over the Eurythmics. Obviously Annie has the better voice, but I like the metal riffs in that song and just prefer Mansons rough vocals on that track.

Nice way to put all the covers from that Somewhere in the Stratosphere acoustic show. I enjoy all of it.

Well, fine. If Frooot can list covers of favorite band, then I shall do that as well. For those that may dislike the following videos, prepared to get rustled. Note that of out these videos, only one I actually prefer better than the original but that's because of tempo.

Alter Bridge - Kashmir (Led Zeppelin)

Alter Bridge - Rock and Roll (Led Zeppelin)

Note, these videos was filmed in 2005, so his voice had a somewhat different tone back then. I wonder how they would perform it today?

Come at me.

Also, Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah trumps the Cohen original imo. There's another version which is even better but I forget who it was

Re: Covers Better Than The Original

IMO - Metallica have impeccably great taste in picking songs to cover but have never done one better than the original, even on the original Garage Days which rocks but most of those lack the finesse of the originals.

anyway, thank the Big Lebowski s/t for these gems

edit - @777- Tom Waits and Cat Power have done great versions of that song too

How about Joshua Radin's Sesame Street cover? Yes, you read that correctly, a Sesame Street cover.

Re: Covers Better Than The Original

I'm not going to say it's better than the original(s), but in keeping with what's been posted here mostly, this definitely does belong here in this thread.
Love it!

Re: Covers Better Than The Original

Seether's cover of Careless Whisper. It has more raw emotion than the George Micheal version
