Warren Zevon - strange, moody, genius.

I could go all day with this.
Warren F'n Zevon definitely deserves a mention. I'm not sure if he'd fit in this category but how about Bob Dylan?

Here's the debate though, are we looking for the most technically gifted singer or the vocalist who penetrated more hearts, or the greatest frontman who entertained while rocking the fuck out of us?

Off the top of my head:

Greatest Technical Singer: Chris Cornell (with Sebastian Bach an honourable second)
Greatest Emotive Vocalist: Layne Staley (with Eddie Vedder not too far behind)
Greatest Fucking Frontman: Bruce Dickinson (with honourable mention to Axl Rose and Mike Patton)

Staley and Vedder are on another level when it comes to emotion and making you truly listen to them, great vocalists and frontmen.

I'd go with the likes of Cornell, Mercury and Plant for the best overall singers and vocalists it's Vedder and Layne for me they had/have that something and that's why i prefer to listen to them over anyone else like you said.

Not really as famous or in a super famous band but Myles Kennedy is a truly brilliant singer.

Re: GOAT rock vocalist/singer suggestions

A great singer that deserves mentioning that I forgot would be Amy Lee. Arguably the best female vocalist or at least top 3. The emotion she can draw and the pure strenght of her voice and range is incredible.

WWE: CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Antonio Cesaro, Kane, Taker, The Shield, AJ, The Wyatt Family, Corey Graves, Paige, Sami Zayn, PTP, Emma, Solomon Crowe, Kalisto
TNA: Austin Aires, Bully Ray, Kurt Angle, Velvet Sky, Bad Influence, Jeff Hardy, TJ Perkins
Other: Kevin Steen, Davey Richards, The Briscoes, Mike Bennett, Maria, Truth Martini, Michael Elgin, Adam Cole, Colt Cabana, Super Smash Bros, Scarlett Bordeaux, Chris Hero
Not removing until:
Paige debuts on main roster
Christopher Daniels is TNA World Champion
An Indy alumni headlines WrestleMania
Antonio Cesaro does a no-hand airplane spin
WWE signs Kevin Steen

Layne's performances of Love Hate Love are sometihng that should be listened to, truly magnificent.

Has to be a live one with layne or ed vedder for the pure raw emotion.

Meh, I think she's lucky to be in Top 20 to be honest and that's being generous.

"Yes, I can hear you Clem Fandango!"

Re: GOAT rock vocalist/singer suggestions

Devin Townsend has such versatility, he can do everything from deep growls, to shrieks to soaring high notes. So he gets my vote.
Then there's Hansi Kursch who simply has the most powerful voice on Earth. And Lemmy gets a shoutout for not being the technically best singer ever but his voice is so unique and recognizable and really, are you gonna have anyone else "sing" to music like Mötorhead's?

Re: GOAT rock vocalist/singer suggestions

Miljenko Matijevic has one of the best ranges I've ever heard in Rock music. Bruce Dickinson is a tremendous front man and Mikael Akerfeldt has a great voice and is just hilarious onstage.

I'm hesitant to put forward Steve Wilson. He's one of my favourite songwriters and is a good singer but I don't know if he'd rank among the best ever. He does for me, at least!

Mercury's probably the right answer. But John Fogerty needs a mention.
