What Is Your Favorite Metallica Album???

Simple questiton what is your favorite Metallica album??? For me I have to say The Black Album. Yes I know this is the album that a lot of fans say that they "Sold Out" and went Mainstream but I consider it by far their best work of the 90's. There is not one song on the album that I hate and its just one of those albums I can play over and over again and never get sick of it. Don't get me wrong though their old albums from the late 80's are just as good but to me The Black Album is their best work.

And Justice for all. Closely followed by Master of Puppets.

Re: What Is Your Favorite Metallica Album???

Difficult question really

Kill em all is all about thash, ride the lightening too, Master of puppet is a legendary album, master of puppet, the song, is maybe teh greatest thrash metal song. In AJFA, they used different sounds, especially for the drums, and it's more a heavy metal album than thrash. it got some unforgettable songs like one, harvester of sorrow and blackened.
Regarding the black album, if you're a true metallica fan, when they released that album, you might not have liked it, but as time goes, you can enjoy some songs like nothing else matters, sad but true, unforgiven or Wherever i may roam, which is my favourite song from this album. the solo is just epic!
For the rest, i won't even talk about how shitty those albums are! Sad but true!!!!

So i can't really choose one album only.

Not even close. Master of Puppets, Everything a metal album should be from top to bottom.

Since this a Metallica thread I'm just going to say that I don't think that LOAD deserves all the hate it gets.

I'm not going to pretend it's as good as Master of Puppets but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Metallica have constantly evolved, in order to stay fresh, try new things, and IMO "The outlaw town" is fucking amazing.

Re: What Is Your Favorite Metallica Album???

I can still listen to MoP and RtL all the way through, so one of those. Lightning is slightly weaker in parts and the pacing is off somewhat. I can live without Escape, but I wouldn't particularly miss Leper Messiah too much either.. ending on a thrasher instead of an instrumental is a better choice, too.

Master Of Puppets is their best album, but you know, Ride The Lightning is probably my favourite.

Re: What Is Your Favorite Metallica Album???

Ride the Lighting will always be my favourite. That whole album is just filled with classics. For Whom the Bell Tolls is just legendary. Then it'll probably be Master of Puppets followed by the Black album. As for their newer stuff, the only album I really enjoy is Death Magnetic as it sort of went back to their original sound. Some great songs on there like Cyanide, All Nightmare Long and Broken, Beat & Scarred.

Re: What Is Your Favorite Metallica Album???

They could have gotten one pretty solid alt-rock album out of Load & Reload. Shouldn't have been two albums, they just ignored quality control, some of the songs on those records are terrible. There was just enough good ones to make it a disappointment, rather than a completely shit album with no redeeming factors (like the Lou Reed collab), because the ideas really were there.

I can listen to S&M the whole way through, as well as RtL & MoP, but that's genuinely it. All the others have various reasons I'm not going to spend an hour of my life with him anymore.

I think it's just the fact that metallica have aged, and their mood is completely different, that's why their music is not the same anymore. Their music has been characterised by anger, which they lost by time and also money changes a lot!

Re: What Is Your Favorite Metallica Album???

...And Justice for All is their best album, imo. The complex nature and longevity of the songs made for a complete thrasher album in my view, although the production is a blow to it.

Load and Reload aren't half as bad as people make them out to be, it was (as another user stated) a fresh approach to things. You wouldn't want them to rehash another Master of Puppets album would you? Breaking through musical boundaries shows true artistic integrity.
