good recording software?
Just wanted to see if anyone here records music and whats a good program to use. I use Audacity, but the quality seems to be really crappy. Don't have a midi or a usb interface to record, only a usb microphone. Also if anyone is interested in hearing my music its: https://soundcloud.com/dan-wasserman. Lemme know what you think. Thank you

Re: good recording software?
Youve got some nice hefty riffs there and I dig the acoustic track alot.
If its just for home demos and practise riffs etc personally Id recommend keeping an eye out for something like a Line 6 TonePort, they dont make them anymore but can often be found cheap online, really easy to use. Amp/effects chain/cab simulators on it are decent (as simulators go anyway) and it comes with Ableton Live software iirc. The drum loops you can download to jam with are good and if youre using another piece of recording software with say, Drumkit From Hell, the possibilities are endless. Havent been on it in a while but this forum always had great tips for recording metal in your bedroom, just search around it a bit http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/andy-sneap-151/ |

Re: good recording software?
There are tons of DAWs out there for recording and editing audio, ProTools is the industry standard but Cubase is popular too. It just depends which workflow you prefer, I use Ableton Live personally. Also you don't need an interface for midi, all these programs have built in midi capabilities, you can pretty much do anything you want with it.
However I would look into getting a new mic as well, if you're concerned about quality then a USB mic is a no go, it's XLR or nothing. Shure SM57s are fantastic for guitar, but they're very pricey too (worth it though). That's when you would need an interface! Your music sounds cool man, any more questions just ask! :) |

I personally use Mixcraft which is decent enough, although I don't really record much guitar stuff anymore. I used to have a Line 6 PodXT Live which made everything sound 100x better, would highly recommend that if you have cash to spare.
