Re: WF GOAT Rapper Tournament Round 4 (FINAL FOUR)

That's the thing with Pac, he always just fell a little bit short, IMO. Like those 3 albums could have all been classic, but it's almost like he lacked the self censorship to honestly say that certain songs were considerably weaker and he needed to rewrite. You know what he was capable of, but he just never eliminated that filler that dragged the LPs down.

What was the filler on MATW?

Re: WF GOAT Rapper Tournament Round 4 (FINAL FOUR)

Okay, I'll be fair, MATW doesn't have filler. It's easily his most consistent album, and there's nothing I find I want to skip, if I want to listen to Pac that's what I'd put on. I just never got the feeling from it that I get from my favourite rap albums, if you know what I mean. I just don't feel it's as good as a 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, Illmatic, Death Certificate, Paid In Full, Ready To Die, etc etc.

Again, it's all personal opinions, and I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if someone told me it was their favourite album. I've owned it for well over a decade by now, and even though I love it, it'd be rounding out my top 10 rather than topping it.

That's understandable I wouldn't put MATW in my top 5 favorite albums either.

Re: WF GOAT Rapper Tournament Round 4 (FINAL FOUR)

An album in your top 10 isn't a classic to you? I mean, I've called "The Blueprint' by Jay Z a classic multiple times and that probably wouldn't even make my top 15 rap albums of all time.

Re: WF GOAT Rapper Tournament Round 4 (FINAL FOUR)

I'm probably a bit biased with him since I've been a fan of him for over a decade, but Em' is really underrated. He's overlooked because he does mainstream a lot, but his less-known singles and a little more 'underground' stuff are classic, here's a few examples:

Pac & Biggie is a throw in though.
Pac had the passion, Biggie had the flow.
You wanna' hear a sample, here's a great example:

Re: WF GOAT Rapper Tournament Round 4 (FINAL FOUR)

The question that has to be asked when it comes to Eminem vs Nas is "What Eminem albums are better than Illmatic?" then "What Eminem albums are better than It was Written?" then "In the last decade, who's been the better MC?"

Nas is 18 years in and just released a top 3 rap album, Eminem in 2014 isn't doing that

Re: WF GOAT Rapper Tournament Round 4 (FINAL FOUR)

It's not set in my top 10 by any means, but there's a clear argument for it being in there, and I always try to use objectivity in things like this (to an extent). I don't like to use words like 'classic' or whatever to describe albums I don't see as the best in the genre, so that's again a personal thing. If you're going to call The Blueprint a classic, then we obviously just use the word differently. Some people will call any really good album, or any artist's best, a classic, but I tend to reserve that for the few records I consider the best in the genre, or something like Straight Outta Compton that had an undeniable impact on the direction hip hop took.

EDIT: Wait, when you say top 3, do you mean for Nas albums, this year, rap in general? I'm pretty drunk so not following that line of thought.

*No one noticed my awesome mini-rap *

Kinda off topic, but I'm too lazy to go back to the other threads and search;

Where did Big L stand in this tournament?
