Yeah, what was up with that? It's like Nas just got lazy or something. Although he came back with awesome albums like Stillmatic, God's Son, Streets Disciple, Life is Good etc.

Hip Hop was probably just going through a weird transition at the time with acts like Eminem, DMX, Jay-Z all on the rise. Where Nas took a break from it all due to the passings of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

It's awesome that he bounced back though. I've always thought he was much better than Jay Z. The Eminem and Nas arguments are stupid. Eminem is a brutal MC, very talented, he even showed up Jay Z on his own song!

Street's Disciple was far from awesome, classic double album problem. Every other album you mentioned is though

And in terms of lyrics, it was there. The beats (Nas's lifelong nemesis) weren't, and that ruined both of those albums imo. Like 3/4 of the beats on both albums were awful

That's not at all what happened. I explained on the last page.

Yeah. And Small World, Undying Love, and NY State of Mind pt. 2 are 3 of his best storytelling songs ever. We Will Survive was dope.

I always liked Ghetto Prisoners, despite the beat. He was killing it on that though.

I Am... has become somewhat underrated IMO people acting like it's trash and God's Son and Street's Disciple are great? I Am is on the same level as those albums, really. It's just that I Am... was the first time we heard Nas put out some wack songs, so it showed the first real chink in his armor. I mean, it was disappointing at the time.....but for those who got into hip hop way after it came out, that shouldn't matter. I think some just repeat what they read because it's what they think they're supposed to think/say. That album was at least half dope, far from terrible.

Illmatic
IWW
Stillmatic
Lost Tapes
Life is Good
God's Son
Hip Hop is Dead
I Am..
Street's Disciple
Nastradamus
Untitled

Untitled I liked maybe 4 songs out of the 17, what a disappointment
And I'm one of the few people who rate HHID higher than a 5 (I give it a 7). Still Dreaming is one of my favorite Nas tracks ever, and Black Republican even though it was a disappointment is still a great track

Yes, it is. I understand what you mean with the whole bootlegging problem but Nas took a step back when Pac and Biggie died, he was also in the process of raising a family. Jay-Z took a shot at him in the "Takeover" then Nas fired back and revived his career.

OK. Form your opinions from Behind the Music specials. I was there.

It Was Written dropped like July of 1996. The Firm dropped like fall of 1997(October or so). I Am... dropped like March-April of 1999.

Those are all pretty standard, normal time periods between albums. Pac died in Sept. 1996, Biggie in March of 1997. The Firm came out 7 months later. He didn't take any "step back". More time passed between Illmatic and It Was Written(over two years), than between any of those albums.

His only mistake was scrapping a lot of the best songs rather than just putting it out, and trying to record a bunch of new songs for Nastradamus.

Nas and Jay had been taking shots at each other for years, it didn't start on Takeover. And yeah, it "revived" Nas career.....but he never went anywhere as a dope rapper. He was always dope, he just made some bad career decisions after the bootlegging fucked his album up.

It might. Seeing all the albums in the running might produce more accurate voting since voters can just go listen to the albums beforehand even though it would be a lot of music.

EASY.

(1) 2Pac vs. (4) Notorious B.I.G.
(2) Nas vs. (3) Eminem

The Firms album has some of the craziest Dre beats ever. With that said though, considering the talent within the group, the album was disappointing.
