Illmatic is his only classic IMO. Stillmatic and IWW only have a few truly standout songs. Illmatic is ill from beginning to end. That's what I call a classic. Similarly, Scarface's The Diary is a true classic because there's only one song (which is called "One", lol) that I find skippable and even that one has an ill beat.

For it to be a classic, I have to enjoy as much of it as possible which I really don't feel with most of Nas' albums. Stillmatic becomes weak towards the end and IWW has the good spread out from each other.

I liked everything on Stillmatic besides "My Country" and "Braveheart Party (but it's still listenable)"

IWW I can still play from start to finish, weakest song is Black Girl Lost but it's not a bad song at all

I don't think it's necessarily fair to look at it from a longevity/discography standpoint because of how many lives/careers were cut short for so many of these guys. TBH, Pac's posthumous albums would pull him down in the rankings if you're looking at it that way and guys like Biggie and L never got the chance to truly shine especially L.

I look at from a content standpoint. What are you talking about? Can you paint a good picture in my mind? Your wordplay, double/triple entendres, metaphors, alliteration, flow, rhythm, diversity, style, production value, consistency throughout your discography, collabs, etc.

That's why Nas is my GOAT because he hits most of these categories if not all and hits them well. It's also why I put Pac so high and rank L higher than most wood. Lyrically, he was insane. No one's had a better punchline game before or since.

It's really unfair to base your judgements on something not everyone has a fair chance at.

One of the reasons Biggie is so high on my personal list is that despite having such a small amount of actual material almost every single rhyme is tight as fuck.

"Smell the Indonesia; beat you to a seizure
Then fuck your moms, hit the skins til amnesia
She don't remember shit! Just the two hits!
Her hittin the floor, and me hittin the clits!
Sucking on the tits! Had the hooker beggin for the dick
And your moms ain't ugly love; my dick got rock quick
I guess I was a combination of House of Pain and Bobby Brown
I was "Humpin Around" and "Jump-in Around"
Jacked her then I asked her who's the man; she said, "B-I-G"
Then I bust in her E-Y-E"

Wait, what? Eric B? As in Eric B and Rakim? Overlooked?

edit: My bad, somehow missed that Eric B gem. I love when people try to pretend they know what they are talking about, and then out themselves like that. Hilarious.

"wow" Wow what? Andre 3000 sings and is lame. He's hardly a RAPPER, Big Boy is more the rapper than him and quite frankly he's more talented. People think Andre is so awsome because he's in movies. Big deal. People aren't judging on TALENT but merely mainstream appeal. Kanye as one of the best? Give me a break. Scarface isn't that great, he's nothing special.Black Thought, who cares? Seems like people put more stock into shit that shouldn't matter.

There are plenty of names that should be ahead over most guys there it just depends onw hat you're looking for. In terms of pure old school where's Run DMC,Eric B,Kool G Rap,Slick Rick,Guru?

When it comes to pure talent and or meaning behind tracks Vinny Paz,Celph Titled,R.A. The Rugged Man,Ill Bill ,Copywrite,Sabac Red,Apathy....etc

I'm not a fan of Immortal Technique... In fact I hate the guy but I respect what he does and what he raps about he isn't afraid to say what he wants.

Ya they're trash but since they were on tv you clowns think they're so awesome!

Woah, I know nothing about rap?Or is it Hiphop? I've heard everyone on that list, and there are plenty of names that deserve to be there. Its an extremely underwhelming list, some made it beacuse they're dead and others made it because they were on tv.Hardly something they should get credit for. If you want old school where is Run DMC? If you want TALENT where's Vinny Paz,R.A. The Rugged Man , or Celph titled? If you want meaningful songs with talent wheres Sabac Red,Copywrite,Revolution of the Mind.... and thats just "underground" guys who deserve to be on this list over most of those names. If you think Black Thought is technically proficient then you haven't heard much

But ya Kanye is one of the greatest of all time...and I! Don't know hiphop . Big L,Big Pun,Talib being overlooked is a JOKE.

Like I said, this list is a joke and there are plenty more deserving
As if calling Black Thought, Dre 3000, and Scarface trash(among others) wasn't enough.......YOU SAID WHERE'S ERIC B!!???? ERIC B!!!!!! LOLOLOLOL. Trying to namecheck somebody whose name you have read, huh? That right there proves you haven't even listened to an Eric B and Rakim album. Just stop.

WOW. Maybe someday you actually will learn something about hip hop, and you'll think back and realize "you know what? LBGetback was right! I didn't know SHIT and was talking out my ass."

Whats funny is that all you could get out of what I said was Eric B. Why only look at Eric B? You missed my point entirely. I never said Eric B is the greatest did I? I said he'd be more deserving than some of the names on this list. If you only read names(which clearly you did) you waited for something you disagree with but ignored what I said completely. Again, I'm not saying the list of guys I named are the greatest they deserve to be on the list OVER the guys I named before. Seriously why is that so hard to understand?

LOL at this, "Big Boy", who's that? "Black thought, who cares?" "Scarface isn't that great", Fuck! I'm not even going to respond to those ignorant statements. Aquemini and the Fix> All of AOTPs work as a group and by themselves combined

Yeah sure, I'll vote Eric B in next time

No place in a GOAT rapper tournament

So that puts him in a GOAT rapper tournament? You were just shitting on Kanye earlier, he also isn't afraid of what he says and raps about what he wants as well

Yeah, Scarface is everywhere on TV!

No you don't, because you're shitting on Scarface/3 Stacks/Black Thought and think jabronis like Celph Titled should be in. AOTP is great, how many classic albums do they have? Who the fuck remembers any RA verse besides on Uncommon Valor?

Big L and Pun died too soon, L has 1 (or 2) classic albums and Pun only has one. Kweli is in the lead right now so I don't know what you're on about with him being overlooked

Yeah, like Vinnie fucking Paz?
Why should number of albums matter when judging skill? That makes no sense. If talent is there, its there. Oh sorry I spelled "Big Boi's" name wrong. If honestly thats the reason why you "know more" than I do, then thats just pathetic. If thats the only thing you can come up with to put down what I said, its hilarious. You're tryign to tell me I don't know hiphop because I put a Y instead of an I . Like I said, they ain't shit. As for Eric B you missed my point entirely. So , guys who are lyrically talented than most of the list don't deserve because they haven't been rapping since 1990? Thats a head scratcher if ever there was once. Kanye is on this list yet the guys I named been doing it longer than he has. I gave reasons why they deserve MORE. You are missing my point entirely because you read what you WANT to read instead of what was written.

Scarface has had a music video, which clearly equals to him being greatest of all time according to some . He made a song with pac he must be good! No no he's not. If you think Celph Titled isn't good lyrically than you know NOTHING. His word play, metaphors , flow destroys most guys out there. R.A. started most guys styles in the mainstream, the dude created a lot of people and has done tracks with some of the all time greats, some that aren't even on this list but of course you ignore it because I schooled you. You're only fixated on one name. Classic , when you can't argue properly just stay on one name and ignore the rest. What fantasy land you live in

Again, you miss my point entirely. In terms of waht he did along Rakim years ago, as far as old school guys he'd be more deserving. I never said he's the greatest of all tiem nor would he, I said more deserving. Why is that hard to understand? But hey I'm sorry I don't think Kanye is one of the greatest of all time LOL

LOL at Andre 3K barely being a rapper because he sings, Andre is one of the most consistent rappers to this day. Hardly does Andre ever have a bad verse, and yes he's a better rapper than Big Boi.

I don't think Kanye should be in the top 10, but if I'm picking 32 of the greatest rappers ever yes I would include Kanye, that's just my personal opinion.

Also LOL at you thinking people only voted Scarface & Andre 3000 because they've been in movies, if that's case then why didn't Will Smith make it? The reason they made is they're both great rappers, as well as Black Thought. You don't think guys like Scarface, Andre 3000 & Black Thought deserve to be on the list but the typical elitist hip-hop underground favorites like Immortal Technique, Vinny Paz & R.A. the Rugged Man should be?
Again, you missed my point. Andre is hardly a guy who deserves on the list. He ventured out of music and people then think he was great. He was never that gerat in outkast. What makes me laugh is how people poked fun at me picking a guy who has 2-3 albums and was more of only a group act yet put in Andre who only has 0 solo albums. His style is completely different from actual rap while his partner was more the rapper. Andre was a soul guy ,RNB type . Again, it depends on the criteria which I even mentioned that in my post

He's made classic upon classic albums, been part of the one of the greatest groups in Geto Boys, has longevity, amazing storytelling abilities, laid the foundation for "mafioso rap" (a style Kool G Rap mastered later) and more that I wont bother pointing out since that was enough to prove he's fully deserving of being in the list over no names like Copywrite.

And any credibility you had was destroyed the moment you mentioned Eric B. Need I remind you that he was NOT a rapper? Hell, some people are not even sure if he produced the albums with Rakim and you are out here mentioning him because it somehow makes you look cool and "knowledgeable". And rarely you'll find a bigger Run DMC fan than me but face it, they are NOT worthy of a "greatest rapper list". For one, they were a GROUP and like the Beastie Boys, only worked to perfection as one. Neither Run nor DMC have anything to boast about when it comes to solo careers or at least solo performing. Their rapping style was pretty much them rapping together every verse, not to mention, despite making classic music, their rhyme schemes were basic as fuck and would never land them in a "greatest rappers" list as standalone acts. Now as a group... Run DMC is at least in the top 5!

I think Guru, Slick Rick and Kool G Rap deserved to be in the list, specially over trash like Kanye but that's a different story.
Ya Scarface has been on tv, mid-late 90's guy people love. I don't think he deserves on the list, simple as that. There's more deserving. I mentioned Eric B, for the simple reason as what he and Rakim did for hiphop. I think he deserves some credit. Now I don't think he's the greatest, I put him the list simply because as far as old school guys he should get some credit. Thats all, I never was implying he should be ON this list, just that he's MORE deserving than a guy like Kanye. You mention groups why is Andre 3000 on it then? He has no solo albums.

Mentioning 1 name should never shutdown what someone says thats horrible logic considering missing the point completely. People miss my point entirely. They saw that I trashed the list and just want me to say"these guys are the only greatest of all times" when I never once said that.

Andre was extremely versatile. He could rap on an R&B beat or a hip-hop beat and make it work. He could do an R&B song with soul as well. His solo album (technically) was The Love Below and it was a great album. In Outkast he was a great complement to Big Boi. Andre is severely underrated.

Here's a great example of Andre doing a good job on an R&B/hip hop track:

Exactly my point. He could do a lot, I'm giving him credit for it. He's jsut not for me, but as a rapper solely I wouldn't put him on that list. The thing is, I'm getting harped on for putting guys who don't have the most extensive solo albums while Andre has 0. I'm not a fan of his, he's multi talented in a lot of areas but when it comes just down to rapper, I woudln't put him on the list. Maybe calling him trash wasn't the way to go I'll admit that and apologize for it however I don't think he deserves to be on the greatest of all time. I don't think he's talented enough if you get what I'm saying. Not that he sucks out right, he's still better than a lot of guys in the mainstream but that isn't saying much
