WF's Favourite Genre of Music - Round 2

After Black Metal won the battle of the last poll, its time for round 2 and for two completely different genres. This time doing battle are Indie and Folk. Make sure to vote for your favourite . I've also doubled the voting time this time around to give people more time to vote. Appears the time I gave for the first poll wasn't long enough and some people missed out.

Voted indie, based on the early UK indie bands like The Smiths, and the US 80s bands like The Replacements, Husker Du, etc. I'd go for folk over that whole mess of shit that followed in the wave of The Strokes popularity, though.

'face palm' Indie isn't a genre, just a label's corporate status. "Indie" as it's most popularly known is an umbrella term for far too many bands, from The Smiths to Belle & Sebastian. Most of these bands are alternative or folk rock.

A lot of bands that people call indie surely belong in other genre's of music like svart said. Folk music is like, one of my favourite genre's though so I'll vote for that.

This, there are also a lot of bands that seems to be label as "indie" when they have corporate labels behind them, is getting really ridiculous

I can't vote, i love folk but there are movements that can be labeled as "indie" like the post-punk that are among the better things i have listened

Re: WF's Favourite Genre of Music - Round 2

Both terms are pretty loose to be fair, they could mean a load of different things depending on who you're asking, 'Folk Music' in particular is a pretty wide net that could mean thousands of different types of music.
Anyway Im currently listening to John Jacob Niles -'American folk songs' and its just about the greatest thing ever so I'll go with folk.

Re: WF's Favourite Genre of Music - Round 2

These are loose terms admittedly and it is debatable whether Indie is actually a genre or not. Having said that, most people use Indie as an umbrella term for a genre anyway so that is why it was included. And please, don't give me anymore lectures about how it shouldn't be included because it is not genre because you've made your point already.
