Popular music's worst year in the new millenium?

I'd honestly have to say 2012!

Just like what Lil Wayne said, rap has become "boring". I may not be a Weezy cocksucker, but he sure has a point. The advent of electro music has also deteriorated genres. Look at what happened to R&B, and even Rock. Dubstep is a by-product to hipster and emo trash. Boy bands have polluting the charts. I can't even listen at the Top 10 hits nowadays. The only music that's worth listening to is indie, but that can't save the entire industry.

The sheer mediocrity and asinine made me become speechless. By the looks of it, 2013 will become worse than ever.

On the other hand, I think 2009 was the best in the new millennium so far. I'm trying to remove my nostalgia factor, and if I remember, that's the year when genres started to mold perfectly. Sure, it had electro, but it felt original back then. Runner-up is 2003, the year when nu metal was at its finest and took over the global culture. Nu metal invaded the urban fashion scene if I remember.

It's going down the drain since Nicki Minaj and Pitbull took over. Plus, that dubstep invasion is unbearable.

Mainstream Rap has become boring, and Lil Wayne himself helped contribute to that.

here's an idea.

don't listen to mainstream, then you don't make stupid generalisations. 2012 has been another great year for music, just like every year, there will always be quality music. just look for it.

What was so much better in 2009 than now, as far as the mainstream goes?

And who was listening to nu metal in 2003? Did someone hear Results May Vary and get their mind blown or something? Man.

Says the guy who's contributed towards it becoming that way.

By the way no year is the worst. Every year has its fair share of good music and bad music. I don't listen to mainstream rap too much these days but on the pop side of things, 2012's been a good year.

Re: Popular music's worst year in the new millenium?

2012. The Call Me Maybe song alone does it for me. People like Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Rihanna, Flo Rida, etc. are making things worse.

Thank you Edge.
