Oh no you didn't lol.

Look, I think it's unfair to generalize people as shitty singers. Like with every artiste, they have good songs and they have terrible songs. What? All of Michael Jackson's songs were good? FUCK NO! The people you listed such as Riahanna, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, blah, blah, blah all have good songs and then they have down right shit. For crying out loud, I can count the amount of songs that I like from J-LO on one finger but shit they're 3 good songs. Sure she's had 40 something bad ones, but there's of 3 of them that I listen to.

Pop music would always be pop music. If you're looking for some sort of message in pop music, you have to look far. But for the most part it's nothing but a 4 line verse followed by some chorus, followed by another 4 line verse, then the chorus then we play the instrumental for a while then we end with the chorus. And that's been the money-making formula for decades now.

As for rap music....yeah now that's really looking far and few.

don't listen to mainstream, then you don't make stupid generalisations. 2012 has been another great year for music, just like every year, there will always be quality music. just look for it.
Any suggestions ?

Rock/Indie that is.

I'm not an expert when it comes to finding hidden gems, but i'd suggest checking out sputnikmusic.com. It's a great site to discover artists/bands and also to find what were the best albums of the year (multiple genres, although rock, metal and indie are the most popular)

All of them.

But there is quality music outside of the mainstream. 2012 has been one of the greatest in so many years, especially for Heavy Metal, New Age, and Hard rock fans.

I go more towards the European scene. Not Death Metal mind you, but there are a few pretty decent bands. I even got into J-Rock. Can't understand a word of it, but I still like it.

Fucking 2008 for me. I'm young so 00-06 automatically gets a pass for nostalgic reasons. But 2008 was just unbearable for me. Funny enough, I haven't paid attention to popular music since. The only song that I could stand was Viva la Vida by Coldplay.
