Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
This Kendrick album is dope! Been playing it all evening.
Very dense album, which I like. I can tell it's gonna be one of those albums where you catch new things each listen. Reminds me of a lot of 90's albums, where this is clearly HIS album. Like you listen to an Outkast or 2Pac album....that's THEM. They aren't sounding all over the place, trying to sound like everyone else. This album gives me that feeling.
I'm not crazy about all the interludes at the end of songs....I'm not a big interlude fan, and if they are there I like when they're seperate tracks from the songs. I can fix that myself though.
He's definitely not chasing commercial fame, but the songs are good enough that he might get it on his own terms, which would be so dope. Hoping this really hits, it reminds me of when College Dropout was the "unite the backpackers and commercial fans" album.....this could do the same thing, it's sound is accessable without trying to be.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
I don't mind interludes but I would prefer them to be their own separate tracks instead of being added on to a song.
This album is really great, like really good. I enjoyed every single song from start to finish, the first album I can say that about that's dropped this year. Really the first album I can say that about in a long time.

A$AP isn't in my Big 3.
But I'm anticipating his debut album as well, if it's anything like LiveLoveA$AP

I know, but then buying the album feels useless to me.
And on the subject of A$AP Rocky, his production = out of this world.

Will listen to it. Better to download it when it's linked then when it comes out and sites crash.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
On the subject of K.Dot...
Quote:
Kendrick Lamar says that critics put him in a box by classifying his music as one particular thing.
Kendrick Lamar may spin socially clairvoyant rhymes, but he doesn't like being pigeonholed as a "conscious" rapper. During an interview with The Fader, K. Dot addressed the biggest misconceptions about himself from the critical community, observing that media tries to classify his music as one particular thing but that he just wants to be viewed for the varietal content of his songs.
"Early on, when I started really getting attention, I seen a lot of blogs and a lot of media try to classify my music as one particular thing. That was like the 'conscious' thing," he said. "It’s crazy, because they define it after just one project, certain things I was talking about. I never wanted that. I never want people to classify my music. That went out the window once I dropped a record called 'Ignorance Is Bliss.' It was street, it was West Coast, it was a little bit more wisdom, and a person can’t really fake that. They figured out it wasn’t just the introspective side. At the end of the day, I want people to recognize me as just a human being, period. I talk about whatever I feel and whatever I go through."

Also, another single from The Man With The Iron Fists - http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/single...ivers-of-blood
I swear if RZA can gather the Wu for another album it's gonna be an instant classic. Ridiculously good.

Only if they all shut up and let RZA call the shots. I mean, Ghost flat out called their last album wack when it came out, didn't he? LOL. They can't be doing that. Just like the early days(when they made by far their best music), let RZA run the show. That's their only chance.
Ghost is the only one whose shown he can make a good album on his own, without RZA(and I guess Meth, with Redman). They just need to trust RZA, doubt it happens. They are all too old and have been doing their own things for too long and there's too many egos for it to work at this point, IMO. Hope I'm wrong.
And on a side note, I'm still tripping off how Meth beat Red like 16-5 in the tournament on here. I mean, Meth got one good solo album(with RZA), and Red's got 4! 4 > 1. And even Meth's one wasn't as great as people thought it would be before it dropped.

Meth was an incredible pioneer of flow and really helped push it to the forefront of what was really important to an emcee's rap game. Red can't match him in that department.
