Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

really hated the Pac/Biggie beef, bunch of subliminal disses aside from "Hit 'Em Up" which is an overrated track with a bunch of childish insults, and how people rate that diss as the best diss of all time even tho you got much harder tracks like Ether, No Vaseline, Real Motherfukkin' G's, Dollaz and Sense, 2nd round KO, The Takeover, and Jack the Ripper is beyond me

two of the GOATs and emcees with legendary flow and lyrics, not denying that at all, but honestly, i'd take the Dre/Eazy-E beef over the west/east bullshit anytime of the day

I wonder if Biggie would have ever left Bad Boy and Diddy? It sure would have been interesting.
Puff did a lot more before discovering Biggie.

Everyone already knew who Puff was before Biggie came out. He was integral in the early careers of Jodeci and Mary J Blige especially, and he had enough juice in the industry to even start Bad Boy up and blow up his first 2 artists.

I'm not defending his business practices at all, he's obviously shady and screws over his artists.

As for why he had to be "all in the videos, on the records" (Suge), he definitely overdid it. But he still gives us some great adlibs and rants, like on the above Long Kiss Goodnight. "And we ain't talking about no other rappers, we talking about YOU mothafucka!" I like Pac, but that was dope.

The thing with Diddy is that he knew how to market people and get them tons of hype. He managed to make guys like Loon and Yung Joc popular in the mainstream.

The Chappelle skit was great. This is my favorite Puffy parody by Chris Rock, making fun of the Can't Nobody Hold Me Down and Hypnotize videos as well as his whole steez and persona at that time.

Hit Em Up wasn't overrated, The emotion in that song is what made it so great "Die slow, Die slow mothafucka, my 44 will make sure all y'all children don't grow." That gets realer then some of the stuff in Ether, Don't get me wrong, songs like Ether were great but Hit Em Up was an authentic, true diss track. If you just got shot and you were angry at people who you suspected did it, you're not going to sit there doing some clever lyricism to attack them.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

"Hit 'Em Up" was terrible. People just loved how direct it was but the best part of the song was the end were he wasn't even rapping just talking all that crap with his weed carriers rapping was crap.

Lil Cease has confirmed in at least 3 interviews the song was about Pac. Puffy's part at the end is pretty clear as if it wasn't obvious enough. He also said there was 6 verses of material written for the song in total and Biggie changed his mind and omitted some of the more crude and disrespectful lines.

The most important note about that song is that he mentions the Lil Cease car crash which happened after Pac died, confirming he wrote it after his death. I think the song is sick but saying the shit they said after he died was bitch made imo. I mean I'm all for the back and forth tracks but why wait till the dudes dead and then decide to go ahead and respond? Especially Puffy's little speech there.

".....s wanna talk shit, but that's after I'm gone,
cause they fear me in the physical form"

Found one of the interviews.

Lil’ Cease: That was a one-nighter. That was about ’Pac. He had some shit at the beginning of that though, nobody heard it, on the reel. We had to change it. It was a little too much. I can’t remember what Big said about him, but it was terrible. It couldn’t make it. He didn’t want to do it. He had some fire. But he didn’t want to make it too much. He just wanted to address it and to let ..... know, “I know what’s going on, and I could get wreck if I want to.” Like, “If I really wanted to get on ya .....s, I could.”
