Also a question in regards to that "a star is born track"
Is jayz shouting everyone out, but auctually giving them a thinly vield backhanded compliment in the process?
Like he gives props to everyone, but then rates himself above them?
I dunno, maybe I'm just misinterpreting it.
I still rate the song.
You guys mind checking out my boy? I haven't heard much from him, but this is his latest video. I'm always hearing about him doing new shit and so I just looked at his YT and figured I'd get some of your thoughts on him if you care to give em.
never was a big fan of Snoop , I always believed that he stole some of NWA's lyrics (not saying he isn't a great lyricist) , was happy that Eazy killed him and Dre , but Doggystyle was a legendary album ..
like him or hate him the guy had his own unique flow
but like most rappers he got lazy after his success , if you listen to most tracks from Tha Doggfather album he was lazy as fuck

I liked the singles and the overall production of the album but I was never really a fan. I mean I've listened to every album up to R&G and my basic consensus was that it wasn't the albums that I had a problem with it was Snoop Dogg in general.
Meh.
I think Lay Low and Imagine are the only two songs I have on my iPod.
I like Snoop. The problem with him is the fact he can't make an album free of filler if his life depended on it. All his albums go beyond 20 tracks and 70 minutes. I enjoy most of them, though. Tha Blue Carpet Treatment and No Limit Top Dogg in particular are quality he's released post-Doggystyle.
And I like Dre's rapping too. Sure, he's not a lyricist, but I really like his voice and delivery. His solo rapping can always be great even when he's spitting garbage (Nuthing But a G Thang). One song that gets overlooked is "A Nigga witta Gun". Dope ass beat and it's as good as his rapping has ever been with The D.O.C. ghost writing a better verse than most of the ones he's gotten.
The Gaga feature did not make Wale known. Gaga fans didn't give a shit, I doubt they'll like Kendrick either but who knows. A decent amount of rap fans already knew who Wale was. The rest found out when he got with Ross. The Gaga feature was a bust for him.
Again, Kendrick's buzz and fanbase have been growing. He'll be fine if the music is good.
Having good music doesn't mean you'll be succesful mainstream wise.
But he's got buzz. And he's got charisma, IMO. If the album is good, it will do well in the hip hop world.
I'm not predicting him to be a Drake level star. I think he'll sell fairly well for a major label hip hop debut in 2012.
He's not some obscure rapper that's only known on hip hop internet message boards anymore.
Being a good album doesn't mean it will do well. And he has some buzz. Charisma? I don't see anything he has that will connect with a mainstream audience. Great lyrically but that's it.
