Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Anyone think there should be a Hip-Hop hall of fame? Sure rappers are inducted into the R&R HOF but they're not rock and roll artists.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Hip hop has been around for like barely 40 years, too early imo.

And you walked into facts

Nelly has more gold/platinum albums and is more mainstream and he got big around the same time. Heck his debut album went Diamond. Just wanted to put that out there.

True.

Influenced many new school rappers today (just look at some A$AP interviews, when Juelz said he's "not Harlem" he looked like he was gonna cry. Dipset influenced all of the new school Harlem dudes)
I guess.

Dropped a very dope mixtape series with Vado (besides 2.8) and made Vado hot (and again like Juelz, Vado didn't take advantage) in the streets.

Started, along with G-Unit, the mixtape craze. Ask anyone about The Diplomats Vol. 1-5.
I'm not big on mixtapes but those were OK.

Not hip hop:

A beloved role in a classic movie
lol. Let's not get carried away. Paid In Full was an OK movie but I don't know about classic. I can't really say that his role was beloved either.

Not really relevant to his hip-hop career but yeah it's a well known meme and it still cracks me up.

We should probably try to forget that one.

In terms of Cam'ron's lyrics and rapping skills in general, he's barely average. I can't think of a song where he really impressed me.

Thank you Edge.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Paid in Full is legendary, chill.

And what do you mean that's it? Jay-Z has only done it once (took him 13 years), Kanye's only done it once, Eminem did it once, etc. It's hard to have that type of success in such a short time.

And Diplomatic Immunity really isn't debatable, Come Home With Me is because of the filler (Stop Calling), but it has some classic tracks on there. Diplomatic Immunity, I can play that album front to back besides the Hey Ma remix. The Heatmakerz really went off on that album. Top 5 double disc hip hop album

And Nelly had a legendary run, nobody can deny that no matter how garbage he is now.

I agree but the names that you mentioned are way bigger than Cam'ron and also have had many more platinum albums.

It was good but it wasn't solely Cam'ron on there. In fact, I liked Juelz on the album better.

Yeah. But in terms of his skills, no one is going to put him in the top 10 of all time. Same could for Cam'ron. However, outside of New York I can't really say that Cam'ron would be considered a legend.

Thank you Edge.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Nelly legendary? When he was hot he was mostly known for club-bangers. KRS-One wasn't messin wit him.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Juelz was great on that album too, but the reason was that Cam'ron gave him his shine on there (IIRC, he had 3 solos on there and a joint with Freeway compared to Cam'rons one solo song). He also put on Vado.

I never said Cam is top 10. He obviously was/is bigger in NY (You could fool the rest of the world, long as NY know!), but when he was big, he was getting love everywhere.

Dat pop

He also was one of the first NY cats to start rapping with the South. He put T.I. on in NY along with Juelz with the "Royalty" song, that's huge. Alot of these new school rappers style are heavily bitten from Cam. In fact, look at Wayne. From 06-07, he was heavily influenced by Dipset.

And Nelly shit on KRS-ONE in that Roc The Mic remix.
I strike a nerve in old MC's wantin a comeback
I got the strength that he's lost and that's fact
Like K - "Know" one here even said your name
R - You really feelin guilty bout somethin mayn
S - Sad to see you really just want just
One - more hit please please!

KRS was looking flabby and sick during that beef, even if he "won", he lost. But no, Nelly isn't legendary.

Quote:
So KRS fired back with a song of his own, and eventually called for a boycott of Nelly's Nellyville, which was set to drop in June of that year. "Nelly challenged a sovereign power," KRS said, calling the boycott "the will of God." But in the end, KRS just looked like a bitter old man while Nelly's album sold almost seven million copies.
