Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Not sure if anybody has seen but Rick Ross goon, Gunplay, IS A FUCKING ANIMAL!!!
50's bodyguards tried jumping him but Don Logan held his own and actually caught 1 of them with something mean before being maced by the cops.
But IMO, this should be BET's final Hip Hop Awards show. No possible way they can have that many egos around and guys with beef and expect nothing to happen. WTF would put 50, Diddy, MMG and Young Jeezy in the same building and expect everything to be cool?
Nominations aside, it provides nothing. Those awards serve as much meaning as a wrestler winning a Youtube award. Not to mention, BET is very picky about certain people even being nominated and actually don't know how to properly categorize certain rappers.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Any ideas on where to start with hip hop? (In a way, I can't believe I'm typing that).
My genres of music is mainly Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Heavy Metal, Alternative etc. but I guess it's time I tried listening to something new, just to see what some tunes are like LOL.
Always kinda liked some of Tupac though, but I've only heard a few of his. Biggie and Snoop Dogg too.

I don’t know..I’m not a cop..but I do know that I’m a punk rocker, and I know there’s some 16 year old kid like me, who’s in high school, he’s very shy…outsider…can’t fit in…and I’m sure he relates to certain bands from the outsider perspective. Is he a punk rocker? I’m sure he is. Has he got a guitar? I hope so or an amp? I hope so. Is he ‘gonna play punk? I bet it is ‘gonna be punk...

Not from 2 years ago.
Gunplay admitted he got knocked out but that was from 2-3 years before the Rick Ross/50 beef, back when Gunplay was still "gooning" in Dade County. Look at a picture of Gunplay from 2, even 3 years back, he was heavily tatted up. Now look at that picture, no tats and rather short hair. The picture was old as fuck and Gunplay said a dude had snuck him from behind, so it's only right he got knocked out.
But no way 5 dudes jump you and you still manage to knock one of them out and eat mace by the police. I give Gunplay props for holding his own.

If you like Tupac, try Scarface. He's the main influence of Pac's rapping style.

Old School: Rakim, KRS-One, Public Enemy, 2pac, Biggie, Wu-Tang Clan (not just their group projects, but their solo projects as well like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Tical, Liquid Swords), Nas, Redman, Big L, Big Pun, Onyx, NWA, Ice Cube, ...that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
New School: Em, Game, Kendrick Lamar, Black Hippy, Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky, Hopsin, Big KRIT, J Cole, Pac Div, Slaughterhouse, Lupe Fiasco - mainly his Food & Liquor albums, ...and again that's all I can think of at the moment.
For the most part, stay away from the radio as it's pretty much garbage. YMCMB, MMG, most of GOOD Music. They AREN'T what hip-hop is about.

To add onto the new school: Random / Mega Ran - he's a great underground rapper for those who like video games or just good hip-hop in general

Eh,if you're looking for new music to listen to, listen to radio also. You might like MMG, & GOOD even if they aren't so-called real hip hop which I disagree with (Wale, Stalley, Kanye, Common, Mos Def, etc. Don't turn into one of those hipster kids, who bash mainstream.
2 of my favorite rappers are 2Pac & Nas what some people will call real hip-hop but if I hear a song like Pop that play I'm not goin to sit there and be like "Oh this isn't real hip-hop". I'll take it for what it is, and enjoy it.

That's why I said MOST of GOOD Music. MMG and YMCMB are fucking terrible and repetitive.
